Happy Friday, Titans!

I know that everybody is excited about the four day weekend, and I can tell you that we had a great week leading up to it. With Junior Achievement here on Thursday, as well as our spectacular PTSA throwing a wonderful Tailgate Party for our 6th graders after school, we had lots of learning and celebration to take us through the week.

A bittersweet congratulations to the Student Soccer Team for (once again) beating our Staff Soccer Team at the game on Thursday 6-3. (OUCH!) A special thank you to the parents, Roswell HS soccer coach, and Hopewell Assistant Principal (and former teacher) Taylor Barton for joining in the fun.

This week at EPMS
Let's Celebrate!
  • Let's celebrate our wonderful PTSA by showing our support and joining for just $10.00. Did you know that, if just half of our parents joined the PTSA this year, we would have enough funding to create a study nook for students in the building AND purchase another set of iPads for student use? Click here for your membership form, and remember that the homerooms with the highest percentage of parent membership at the end of the day Wednesday win a Pizza Party!
  • Congratulations to former Titans Erin Gant, Jaimie Xie, Carlyn Gilbert, and Anand Srinivasan for being named 2014 National Merit Semifinalists recently. We are so proud of them!
  • Kudos to Coach Tatum and the soccer team for their 3-1 victory over Sandy Springs this past Friday.  Great hustle and Titan-like sportsmanship was shown by all.  The parents and student fans that turned out for the game created a festive and supportive atmosphere for our team.  The team ended the season with a 3-2-1 record.
  • Congratulations to Coach Tongue and the tennis team for their efforts at the countywide tennis tournament this past Saturday.  All students played with great effort and exhibited great sportsmanship as well.  Of note, 8th grader Khaled Rmeih advanced to the Elite 8 of the tournament.  Way to TITAN UP!
  • Though next week is a short week in Fulton County, it is also National School Lunch Week, which aims to get kids excited about healthy choices. More than 32 million children eat school lunch every day across the USA, and to celebrate the healthy lunch choices in Fulton County Schools, all cafeterias will celebrate National School Lunch Week during October 14-18. The theme, "School Lunch Across the USA," will include events and activities that promote the benefits of healthy school lunches.
  • Recently I was interviewed by AMLE (Association of Middle Level Education). If you'd like to learn a bit more about me and Elkins Pointe, click here for an excerpt from the interview: http://school.fultonschools.org/ms/elkinspointe/Pages/springmaninterview.aspx.

Reminders/Things to Know

  • If your student is scheduled to take P.E. as their next Connections class and wants a Titan P.E. sports kit, please order on line at: http://elkinspointe.deco-apparel.com/
Kits are $21 and include our Titan "T" t-shirt and a pair of black shorts.  Dressing out is mandatory but ordering this uniform is optional.  (Also, you do not have to be taking P.E. to order one.) On-line orders are processed immediately and will be sent home with your student through his/her advisement teacher. For those unable to order Titan P.E. Kits by computer, paper order forms will be taken Oct. 10th - Oct. 18th.  Paper forms can be found and turned in at the front desk.
  • A new website for Fulton County Schools went live Oct. 7, 2013. You now have access to school system information in Arabic, German, English, Spanish, French, Hindi, Italian, Japanese, Dutch, Russian and Chinese.  You will also have quick and easy access to check your children's progress via Home Access and pay for school lunch with My Payment Plus right on the home page. This website refresh is part of the school system's ongoing effort to be transparent and keep you informed. Stay tuned to Fultonschools.org for more about this new launch and the latest news and information about the school system.
  • Our clinic assistants would like to give parents a few reminders about healthy lifestyles and how the clinic can support you. Click here for more details.
  • Are you aware of the Future Focus Fair coming up on October 19th, provided by Georgia Tech? This is a great opportunity for parents to learn about opportunities for their children as they move closer to college. Click here to learn more.
  • Have you heard about JUNIOR BETA LATELY? Our new Jr. Beta Coach, Dr. Foote', has worked with the students to put together a new model - a career preparation approach. Students are creating resumes and portfolios of their volunteer experience, and he is supporting them in their effort to find volunteer hours in the community - including plans for a college fair here at EPMS! If you have a student who left Junior Beta last year but has remained eligible and would like to rejoin, email Dr. Foote' at footesykes@fultonschools.org for details. Interested in your child joining this year? He can answer your questions as well.
  • Please update your email address with the office, not individual teachers. Our teachers are all using eSchool for parent emails this year, in an effort to consolidate information for parents and make it more accessible. If your email in Home Access Center is incorrect, you will not receive these emails. Thank you.
  • Parent Reading Workshop on October 28th, 5:30pm -  Help your child improve his/her reading scores, find out new reading resources, e-books, learn about the resources available at your public library, sign up for a library card. Facilitators: Susan Grigsby and Alice Smith
  • Calling all businesses wishing to advertise in the 2013-2014 Titan Student Directory. Full, 1/2, and 1/4 page ads are available. Please contact Lee Fox (Leecfox@gmail.com) or Julie Benati (jbenati@yahoo.com) if interested for details.

Have a great four day weekend, Titans!  Please note that our office hours will be 9:00-3:00 on Tuesday's Teacher Workday.

With appreciation for your constant support,
sig
