Hello, Titans!
We had a great week here at Elkins Pointe this week, including the kick off of many of our clubs, some sports, and fundraisers for the exciting events of the year. On Wednesday, we took an extended moment of silence in remembrance of 9/11, and we discussed the importance of honoring those who give service to our country. I encouraged all Language Arts teachers to take time to have students write letters for The Bert Show's Big Thank You, an effort to send letters of thanks to our troops overseas. Though this is an optional activity, I hope that many of our families will take time to write letters at home and send them in with their child. Remember, handwritten letters are best, so that they can see you took the time to pen a letter just for them.
Visiting classrooms this week, I had an opportunity to see the students' self-portraits in
Mrs. Suckow's class. Isabelle Sanchez let me take a photo of her masterpiece.

Celebrations Abound!
- Thursday I had the pleasure of joining our Teacher of the Year, Mrs. AJ Smith, at a luncheon provided by the Roswell Kiwanis Club for all Roswell teachers of the year. It was a lovely event, and we thank the Kiwanis Club Members for taking the time to give these teachers a special afternoon.
- Don't forget to come out and join us at the Roswell Youth Parade on October 12th. Wear your bright blue to show your Titan Pride!
- Remember that we have 6th grade Bring Your Parent to School Day on September 24th, where parents are invited to come to EPMS and follow their child's schedule for the day. 7th grade will have their day on September 26th after their Honors Breakfast, and 8th grade on October 1st. This will be our last year offering Bring Your Parent to School for our 7th and 8th grade parents, though we will continue this tradition for 6th grade next year. So don't miss out on this opportunity!
- Speaking of the Honors Breakfasts, please click below to view the list of students who are invited to the breakfast and check for your child's name. If your child received all As and Bs at EPMS last year and is not listed, be sure to contact Ms. Terri Dixon in the front office by the end of next week so that we can make the correction and make sure all of our Titans are included.
- Once again, I am proud to share a celebration for our illustrious Johnson Sensei, who is going to present her work on the National Japanese Exam at this year's American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Language in November. She is truly one of the best!
- Also just as fabulous, our Media Specialist Susan Grigsby and ELA teachers Lindsay Meekhof and Karen Jones will be presenting at GaETC this year. We are so proud of our staff and their contribution to the field of education outside of EPMS as well as in house.

Happenings / Things to Know at EPMS:
- We are getting ready to kick off our Reading with the Titans program for the 2013-2014 school year. Do you have an hour to spare once a week? Come in and read with students who need your help, the same student(s) each week, and watch their abilities and confidence grow as a result of your time. Interested? Email me at springmanm@fultonschools.org.
- Don't forget to attend one of the Community Information Sessions about The System Charter, and remember we will vote for our Local School Governance Council in November. The candidate window is open, and I would love to have some parents step forward and express interest. Email me if you have questions about what it means to be on the council. Dates for sessions? September 17th at 6:00, Mimosa ES and September 26th at 6:00, Northwestern MS. There are other dates as well, but these two are for the Northwest Community.
- Don't forget that progress reports come out this Tuesday. Be sure to take the time to review this with your child and contact teachers as needed.
- We have our first home soccer game on Sept 25. Come on out to show your support! Games generally begin at 5:00.
- Fall Pictures are October 1st; look for information to come home soon.
- And finally, 8th grade parents, if you have not returned your intent form to give permission for your child to attend the Washington DC trip this year in November, we absolutely need the form this week. I apologize for delay with the weblink to make your payment. We are hoping it will be live momentarily so that I can send you the information and simplify the payment process. However, remember that the form secures your child's place on the trip - so be sure to get it turned in to Ms. Sabrina Biccum, 8th grade chairperson.
