Hello, Titans!

Our second week of school has been smooth, balancing classes and getting into the business of learning. While we were all devastated to hear about the gunfire at an elementary school in DeKalb County, here at Elkins Pointe Middle School we were able to reassure students of their safety and stay focused on instruction for the day.  The next day I personally made a few adjustments to our security measures here at EPMS, and I am pleased to announce the Fulton County School district is currently seeking the best option to install additional security measures at the entrances to all Fulton County Schools as well. Together, we will continue to work and keep your children safe so that we can remain focused on the joy of learning every day.

Celebrating our Stellar Staff
  • Just this week, our very own Mrs. Miyuki Johnson was invited to serve on the Foreign Language Education Advisory Board for Kennesaw State University. We are so lucky to have Ms. Johnson on our staff, and we know that she will be a tremendous support to KSU as well.
  • We are so excited about the start of our On Pointe Program this year. The On Pointe Program is an opportunity for our 15-year-old 8th graders to take an accelerated curriculum, allowing them to earn both their 8th and 9th grade course credits during this school year. The teachers of On Pointe are working hard to create an environment of focus and success so that these students can graduate on time with their fellow classmates at the age of 18 years old. Teachers Karen Jones and Whitney Pugh, in particular, gave up personal time this summer to properly prepare for this exciting program.  The program is off to a great start, as you can see by the smiling faces pictured here.
  • Do you have celebrations? I am constantly looking for ways to feature the talented students at Elkins Pointe Middle School. Be sure to email me with news when your students receive local, regional, and state level awards. We like to make sure our Titans know that we are proud of them.

Be in the Know/Announcements

  • On Tuesday morning, August 27th, we invite parents to attend a meeting with Assistant Principal Ms. Mackey for the final approval of the Title I School Compact and Parent Involvement Policy. The meeting will begin at 8:00am in the Teacher Lunchroom.
  • Remember that we will have our Annual Title One Parent Meeting for the State of the School on August 29th at 6:30pm. Click here to see the agenda topics for the meeting.
  • Curriculum Night and the classroom visitations that come with that will begin at 7:00pm on the August 29th as well, for your convenience. Remember that we encourage parents to leave their children at home, as this is a crowded event, and we want everyone to have a seat. Parents will have the opportunity to request conferences with teachers on this evening as well, as there will not be time for individual conferences during this event.
  • Remember that you will need your Home Access Code to vote for our Local School Governance Council in November. Be sure to pick up your individual code (one per parent) soon, and be sure to look for information about how to run for election during the September Titan Talks. Do you have questions about the School System Charter? F.A.Q. sheet.  English  Spanish
  • Currently our Fulton County School Cafeterias have job openings available!  Please contact our School Cafeteria Manager Nicole Johnson or Julie Knight-Brown, Area Supervisor at 404.791.4772 for more information and application instructions. Our starting pay is $10.83 per hour and entry level positions begin at 3.5 hours a day.  That's an extra $758/month for just 3.5 hours each school day!

REMINDER, PTA Needs You!
  • Our PTA is, in my opinion, one of the best in town. The amount of support they provide to your students and this staff is exemplary, so how can you help?
  • A Message From the PTA: Please consider joining the Elkins Pointe PTA.   Look for the PTA table at the Title I Annual Parent Meeting on August 29th ! Click here to learn more
  • SPECIAL NOTE: We currently have a vacancy for PTA President as well. Our executive board is in place and doing a fabulous job, but the critical role of president will help us to have an even more successful year. We are looking for a parent who has the time to attend meetings, facilitate agendas and planning, and serve as a close liaison with me, the principal. Are you interested? Please email me, and I will put you into contact with the executive board so that they may follow the appropriate procedures. (springmanm@fultonschools.org
Club Announcements
  • Two of our sports are starting up as we speak! Soccer held try-outs this week, and Ultimate Frisbee has try-outs next week. Be sure that your student is tuning in to the morning announcements so that they don't miss out on the fun opportunities that we provide.
  • Next week we will have our "Club Promotion Week," where teachers will place display boards in the front atrium, allowing students to check out their options and sign up for interest. These will still be on display Thursday evening, when you are joining us for both the Annual Title I Parent Meeting and Curriculum Night. Be sure to check them out!
Have a great weekend!
