Happy Friday, Titans!

What a glorious day with which to end our week and begin our Spring Break! As we speak, our Titans are enjoying Battle of the Titans and having fun with their friends. This morning, their first competition was a game of Jeopardy, which allowed them to have just a bit of review for the CRCT before the fun began.

This week's Titan Talk will be relatively short, sweet, and to the point.

Celebrations:

  • Congratulations to Jessica Jensen and Lillian Dukes who received 4th place in this year's State Science Fair Competition at UGA last weekend, with their project "Remember This." We are so proud of them!
  • Congratulations to Veena Jaipradeep and Henna Mian for advancing to the state level competition for the GA PTA Reflections completion for Dance Choreography and Visual Arts (respectively). We are pleased to report that Veena placed 3rd in the state this past weekend. Our website will feature a photo of her receiving her award. Way to go, ladies!
  • In the recent ModelUN competition at Centennial High School, we are pleased to report that James Ellis won best delegate in the advanced crisis security council committee. He represented Rwanda. All others delegates seemed to enjoy themselves and learned a lot from the event.
  • The Women's Gymnastics Level 7 State Championships were held March 23-24, 2013 at Kennesaw State University. Seventh graders, Zoe Merchant and Jordan Leet, competed for the City of Roswell Gymnastics Team and placed fourth in the state with both girls receiving individual medals. Zoe Merchant won first place on floor exercise and is the Level 7 State Floor Champion. Jordan Leet won 2nd place on balance beam, 3rd place on floor exercise, and placed 2nd All Around. Good luck to Jordan, who qualified for the Regional Championships at GA State University in 4 weeks.
  • Mr. Huff emailed us to compliment our students on their behavior at the trip to RHS this week. He said that the teachers were commenting as our students left about how polite and attentive they were. We know this about our students already, but it's always nice to hear it from outsiders as well.

Be in the Know:

  • Milton High School: On the evening of Wednesday, May 8, 2013, there will be a meeting for the parents of all rising freshman TAG students. This includes TAG students who are currently inactive or on TAG probation.  The meeting will take place in the Milton High School cafeteria and will last from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m.
  • A TASTE OF BROADWAY - EPMS DESSERT THEATRE: May 1-2   7 P.M., Tickets: $5 advance tickets/$7 at the door (Buy 3 get the 4th FREE). EPMS Drama Club has created a showcase of Broadway's most successful and memorable musicals.  Bring your family and enjoy a sweet treat while the students take the stage.  Share Phantom's "Music of the Night", Billy Elliot's "Electricity" and songs from Les Miserables.  The night promises to finish with a can't sit still feeling with Hairspray's "You Can't Stop the Beat".
  • There is a unique camp opportunity this Spring Break that we just learned about. It's a therapeutic  equine camp for adolescent girls at Healing Hoof Prints. Our School Social Worker met with the program director recently and was very impressed. Click here to view the flyer with more details, as it's only a couple days away.
  • Remember that as soon as CRCT is over, we have several field trips planned. Mark your calendars for the following:
    • April 18, The Orlando Band Festival Trip
    • April 23, 6th Grade Field Trip
    • April 24, our 8th graders attending the Washington DC Trip will leave.
    • §  SPECIAL NOTE HERE: As we did not have enough students express interest in our local trip to Stone Mountain, we are canceling that field trip and looking at a Walking History Tour in the Roswell Area which will be offered to the 8th graders who do not attend the DC Trip, at no cost to the families. More details to come soon!

Did You Know?

Did you know that our PTA Direct Giving Campaign has helped to fund many spectacular items for the classroom this year? Our PTA works tirelessly to make sure that the dollars you donate directly affect your children in the classroom. Here are a few of the highlights ...

  • Lab and equipment supplies for our Science Olympiad Club
  • A software program in Financial Literacy to be offered in Business & Computer Science Courses
  • Mobi Boards (interactive slate technology) for 5 teachers
  • Assistive Technology for vision-impaired students
  • Funding a portion of the Shining Star Event
  • Funding a 2 day workshop for At-Risk Students, focusing motivation and mindsets.
  • Contributing to the cost for our Chorus students to attend "Carmen" performed by the Atlanta Opera

We are so grateful to all of our parents who give to the Direct Giving Campaign each year. It makes such a difference in the lives of our students.

Have an absolutely lovely Spring Break. Make sure the students tune into some CRCT review at least once, and we'll see you on April 8th, with the CRCT beginning on April 10th.
