Hello, Titans!

This week has been all about celebration and learning, my two favorite things! Our meetings with high school counselors went well also, as our 8th graders picked their elective courses for next year in high school.

Celebrations:

  • Our Shining Star Breakfasts were absolutely lovely, thanks to the hard work of Dr. Bearden and her team of teachers. Thank you to the teachers and parents for making these mornings special for the students.
  • Our MATH LEAGUE exam went well this week. It is a 35 question exam that the Mathletes must complete within 30 minutes, an optional challenge. Congratulations to the following students who will receive a Certificate of Merit: Kristen Dippolito, George Ye, Jack Levitt, Liam Frank, Andrew Lang, Rahil Patel, Andrew Ramsager, Daniel Ferreira, Colin Gregoire, and Roopsha Bandopadhyay. A special recognition to Roopsha, who scored a 30, qualifying her for National Consideration. Way to go MATHLETES!
  • Congratulations to: Erin Shinners (8th grade) and Ashley Sbarra (7th grade) for winning the State of Georgia's "Nengajyoo" (Japanese New Year's Card) Contest, sponsored by Georgia Association of Teachers of Japanese!  They designed the card with a theme of the Year of the Snake, with Japanese New Year's expressions.  They were both awarded the FIRST place in the contest!  Great job, Erin and Ashley!!!
  • Congratulations to Chorus Director Charles Baugh, who has been accepted to study Renaissance choral music at the Tallis Scholars Summer School in Uppingham,  England this July.
  • We wish good luck to our students who are competing a week from now: our Model UN group in Savannah, and our two teams who are continuing on to state level for the Technology Competition in Macon. Good luck!
  •

Be In The Know:

  • Teacher Appreciation Week is coming up.  One of the ways our PTA would like you to help show our support of EPMS teachers and staff is by donating supplies.  Please send in classroom supplies to the front office that we can give to them during the week:  EXPO markers and post it notes are the items we need the most but Kleenex, hand sanitizer, pencils, glue sticks, notebook paper, Clorox wipes, etc. are needed too.  If you would like to help with activities during the week, contact Jenny Hudson, jdhudson@comcast.net
  • UP WITH PEOPLE has graciously agreed to visit EPMS and present to our students on March 12th and 13th, in a variety of classrooms. Remember, they are still looking for 85 host families to host their students for the week. Interested in hosting an international student in your home for the week? Contact Anna Schwed at aschwed@upwithpeople.org to learn more and respond soon, as they need our support and time is running out.
  • Special Request from Ms. Springman: North Fulton Community Charities does so much for our community, and their food bank is running low right now. This organization feeds nearly 100 families daily, including many from the EPMS community. Please take the time to pick up some canned and dry goods for them this weekend (don't forget breakfast items), as well as hygiene products and baby wipes. Bring them to EPMS this coming week before school to drop off in the atrium. We are so blessed, and I'm asking all of us to share our blessings with those in need right now. Thank you.
  • Hembree Springs is hosting their second annual Hembree Runs Wild 5K/1K and Festival on Saturday March 23rd and would like to invite you to participate. This is a family oriented event focused on fun, fitness and community. Click here for more information.
  • Our spectacular International Night is fast approaching on March 21st, and we are seeking volunteers for the event. Please click here to view the flyer with information for volunteering. This is one of our largest events each year, so don't miss out.
  • Are you interested in joining EPMS for their Golf Tournament? Our sponsoring part of the event? Click here for details.
  • On March 11th, we will host the Kizuna Project Special Community Event, "Forging Bonds through Shared Experiences: US-Japan Youth Forum on Recovering from Natural Disasters." When and Where: Monday, March 11th at Elkins Pointe Middle School Cafeteria (11290 Elkins Rd.  Roswell, GA 30076). Free and open to the public. The event will start at 6:30 p.m. with snacks and refreshments. Click here for more details.
