Hello, Titans!

Though we had another short week, it was filled with excitement! From Channel 11 Alive News coming out to celebrate a teacher to celebrating students who have been recognized for awards, and everything in between ... it's been packed with celebration.

Things to Celebrate (Sorry if it's a bit lengthy; well, not too sorry) :

  • Make sure you tune into Channel 11 Alive News on Monday morning with Donna Lowry. She was at the school this Wednesday to film Mr. Seth Gamba's orchestra class and students as this week's "Class Act." Parent Ms. Griggs nominated him for all of his hard work. Ms. Lowry told me that she receives over 300 submissions a year and can only select about 30 teachers. The segment will play during the 6:00am news hour and again during the 12:00 noon news hour as well. We are so proud of Mr. Gamba!
  • I am excited to report that both our 7th and 8th grade Orchestras received a "Superior" in performance and sight reading!  Moreover, they received the "Superior" rating from every judge.  This is the highest possible rating. We are so proud of Mr. Gamba and the hard work of his students.
  • Our very own Veena Jaipradeep, School Council President, received the GAGC Distinguished Gifted Teen award from the Georgia Association of Gifted Children last week. The award also includes a $500 scholarship. Additionally, we learned that her submission for GA PTA Reflections placed in the North Fulton County Competition, and we will learn at the State Reception on March 24th whether she will be representing Georgia and moving on to the national competition. We are so proud to have her as a Titan!
  • Good luck to Rylyn Monahan who will compete at the District 4 Spelling Bee this Saturday, as one of the finalists from the FCS Spelling Bee a few weeks ago. We know she will represent us well.
  • On Saturday, February 16th, Sandra Kennedy competed in the 2013 Georgia Archery Association Junior Olympic Archery Development State Indoor Championships.  Sandra won first place for the 14 and under age division.  On Sunday, February 17th, Sandra competed in the Georgia Archery Association State Indoor Championships.  She again won first place for the 14 and under age division. Such a talented athlete in our midst! Final results can be viewed at http://www.gaarchery.org/
  • And last but certainly not least, The EPMS Science Olympiad team took home the 2nd place trophy at Saturday's regional tournament at Georgia State University.  They received an invitation to the state tournament, which will be held on March 16th.  There were 20+ teams at the tournament, and our Titans placed in the top four in 14 out of the 23 events.  They did an amazing job.  Thank you to all of the teachers and parents who made this possible for the students. Look for an article forthcoming on the EPMS website. Go Titans!

If you choose to come, please be sure to bring your student with you, as their opinion is the most important one during this selection.
  • Are you interested in joining in a Golf Tournament to help raise funds for the EPMS Physical Education department, in their new quest to start an Archery Club? Or maybe sponsoring a hole for your local business? Click here to learn about the tournament registration, or email Coach Johnson (Johnsonem2@fultonschools.org) to ask for details about sponsorship.
  • 7th Annual "It's Just Hair" Cut-a-thon:  Please consider donating your locks for the 7th Annual "It's Just Hair" cut-a-thon to benefit Locks of Love and children with long-term medical hair loss.  Most of the children who benefit have lost their hair due to an autoimmune disease called Alopecia Areata, a highly unpredictable disease that can cause hair loss in patches or total hair loss including eyebrows and eyelashes.  The cut-a-thon will take place on Monday, May 20, 2013 at Taylor Brooks Salon in Alpharetta.  Hair must be at least ten inches and cuts and styles are complimentary.  Please contact Diane Cooley to register or for more information at itsjusthair@gmail.com or 678-521-5639.
  • Don't forget the 7th Grade Game & Social Night on March 1st!
  • PTA Nomination Committee:  We are in need of 2 more parents to join the PTA nomination committee. The role of this committee is to recruit and nominate a slate of candidates for the 2013/14 PTA Board. We anticipate holding 1-2 meetings that will last no longer than 1 hour each. Please contact Yvonne Lambert at lambertfour@yahoo.com if you are able to serve.
  • The NFCC Food Bank is running low, and we want to help! Beginning Tuesday the 26th the Interact Club is having a food drive. Canned beans, canned fruits, and breakfast foods are the most needed items. The grade level that donates the most food items (minimum of 100) will receive free seating for a lunch period. We will be collecting these food items in the atrium in the mornings starting on Tuesday the 26th. Please help us support NFCC which supports everyone.
  • Remember, our Parent Calendar is updated weekly, so be sure to check the website regularly for upcoming events.
