Hello, Titans!

Though it was a short week, we had a lot going on. Our basketball teams played well this week, we received news about our Math Counts results from the weekend, and our chorus and orchestra students had their Large Group Performance Evaluations.

Things to Celebrate:

  • Congratulations to our MATHCOUNTS team, who placed 7th out of 22 schools last weekend. We are so proud of their hard work. We are super excited for Roopsha Bandopadhyah and Liam Frank, who will advance to the state level competition on March 18th at GA Tech.
  • Congratulations to our Chorus students, who did well at Large Group Performance Evaluation. 8th grade received a one in performance and sight-reading (the highest score), 7th grade a two in performance and a one in sight reading, and 6th grade a two in performance and a one in sight-reading. We are so very proud of our Titans! Our Orchestra students are competing as we speak, and I look forward to sharing their scores next week.
  • Hembree Springs would like to send a BIG Thank You to the Elkins Pointe Junior Betas that worked their first Sweetheart Dance on Friday night!   These students worked the entire dance beginning with set-up at 4pm and not ending until 9pm.  Click here to learn more about their hard work.

 Things to Know:

  • Teacher Appreciation Week is coming up.  One of the ways our PTA would like you to help show our support of EPMS teachers and staff is by donating supplies.  Please send in classroom supplies to the front office that we can give to them during the week:  EXPO markers and post it notes are the items we need the most but Kleenex, hand sanitizer, pencils, glue sticks, notebook paper, Clorox wipes, etc. are needed too.  If you would like to help with activities during the week, contact Jenny Hudson, jdhudson@comcast.net.

  • Students have an opportunity to participate in a video game challenge, which promotes Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) education. The contest utilizes student interest and growing research on game-based learning to promote innovation, motivation and enthusiasm in students who participate in the challenge. Game-on before the April 14 deadline. See more information at www.STEMchallenge.org

  • Your students can "Stand up To Bullying!" in a way that impacts students around the world. TAG-Ed is having a Web design project that enables students create a website that provides resources for students being bullied or know someone being bullied. Publish and submit your interactive website by March 10th. See more information at www.tagedonline.org.

  • Georgia Tech Latino College and STEM is a bilingual workshop on college access and available family resources. Don't forget to register by February 15th for the March 30th workshop. See more information at www.gostem.gatech.edu/LatinoCollegeSTEMFairRegistration

  • Attention 8th Grade Parents: Milton High School Rising 9th Grade Elective Fair is February 26th. Click here for details. To subscribe to MHS's Electronic Milton Memo, please send your email address to miltonmemo@gmail.com.

  • Attention 8th Grade Parents: Roswell High School Rising 9th graders will visit Roswell High School on March 26th. During this trip, they will learn about electives and clubs so that they may select their electives in April and May. Look for a permission slip to come home closer to the event.

  • I'm doing several Principal Chats in the community this semester. Would you like a chance to talk in a casual setting about EPMS? Ask questions and learn more about your community school? I will be at Edenwilde on February 26th and Hembree Grove Park on March 4th. Both events will begin at 6:00pm. I hope to see you there!

Did You Know?

It is already time for us to make recommendations for next year's courses. Can you believe it? Teachers are reviewing test scores, grades, and considering performance in class to make these decisions. They will contact parents about any changes in placement, so if you do not hear from your child's teacher, they should be continuing into the appropriate course next year. The official verification forms will come home later in the year.
