Important Update to the Adult Protective Services Act
On July 22, 2013, changes to the Adult Protective Services Act (320 ILCS 20/2) were made effective. Specifically, the Department of Aging changed the definition of "eligible adult" in subsection (e).
Prior to the amendment, the term "eligible adult" included "a person of 60 years of age or older who resides in a domestic living situation and is, or is alleged to be, abused, neglected, or financially exploited by another individual or who neglects himself or herself."
The definition of "eligible adult" now extends to adults with disabilities aged 18 through 59.
