Enjoy!
Bizarre but true

On July 4th, 1826, former Presidents Thomas Jefferson and John Adams, the last surviving fellow Patriots, died on the same day within five hours of each other.

Happy 2nd of July?

It has been proposed that the 2nd of July may be a more appropriate date to mark the nation's special day.  It has been said that John Adams wrote home to Abigail on the 3rd that "this day July 2nd will go down in history".

Congress made Independence Day an official unpaid holiday for federal employees in 1870. In 1938, Congress changed Independence Day to a paid federal holiday. How are you planning on enjoying yours?

Let freedom ring

Every 4th of July, the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia is tapped (not actually rung) thirteen times in honor of the original thirteen colonies. This is to protect the bell from further cracking.
Do you realize that 2 of our most beloved national treasures come from other countries: the Statue of Liberty from France and the Liberty Bell from England?

You're a firework!

The American Pyrotechnics Association (APA) estimates that more than 14,000 professional firework displays light up the skies in the United States each 4th of July.

In 2013, of the $213.8 million spent on importing fireworks, $203.6 m was spent importing them from China. This isn't a disparity of concern. Americans use fireworks in their celebrations basically twice a year. In China it is used for birthdays, anniversaries, etc. They have this down.

Ooohs and ahhhs, Arizona style

The fireworks display is always impressive at Arizona's largest party
in Tempe (photo right) . Check out Tucson's fireworks display (left) getting some help from mother nature.
I'd say equally impressive in a different way. However you choose to celebrate, make it safe and let freedom ring.
