Best places to see wildflowers in Arizona.
This is the year to do it.

Superstition Mountains
40 miles East of Phoenix, Lost Dutchman State Park has numerous hiking trails.  Not up for the hike?  A drive in the area will be also rewarding.

Bartlett Lake
48 miles NE of Phoenix, the road is paved all the way and the mountains will be ablaze with Mexican poppies.  Lots of trails, picnic areas and a marina.

Picacho Peak
Located right off of I-10 between Phoenix and Tucson.  This mountain explodes with color during wildflower season.

Desert Botanical Gardens
You don't have to travel far to take in spring in the desert. Ample paved hiking trails to take in more than 20,000 species of desert plants.

Saguaro National Monument
Just outside of Tucson and the road to the park itself is worth the trip.  160 miles of hiking trails and April is the month to see the Saguaro in bloom.

April 2013

Hello Friends,

OK, I wrote this letter a few days ago and it has all changed.  At that time I was having a love hate relationship with my own backyard.  The citrus fragrance was out of this world, the roses were coming back beautifully, the vegetable garden was looking fabulous, the weather was been beyond beckoning, but....my allergies were driving me crazy.  What a difference a day makes.  That was some freaky weather we had yesterday.  Now my yard is a mess, the pool pump is working overtime and my car- wow.  However, this we know... in a few short hours it is going to be beautiful again.  I was out at the Botanical Gardens this weekend- it was stunning and here is the good news- it is weeks away from peaking.  So get out there and enjoy springtime in the desert- it doesn't get better than this.

Prepare your Roof for the Harsh Arizona Sun
Leak Prevention 101

  • Inspect the roof for damaged or loose shingles or tiles.  Have damaged roofing materials replaced if they're on less than 20% of the roof. Reroof if damaged shingles cover more than 20% of the roof.
  • Check your flat roof  for blisters, splits or tears. If your roof is coated-check for wear and tear-especially if it is foam.  A foam roof will last forever as long as it remains coated. That coating is like sun block- without it your roof will degrade. If you see yellow or orange color peeking through- call us!  Failure to take action could cost you a new roof.  If you have not coated your roof in 5 years- have it inspected.  Inspections are always free!
  • Examine flashing around chimneys, vents, and roof edges. Repair as needed.
  • Check roof penetrations and reseal if needed.
  • Remove organic debris from roof service.
  • Remove debris from gutters and downspouts and patch any holes. Make sure the downspouts direct water at least 5 feet away from your foundation walls.
  • Examine fascia or soffit boards. Replace if they are soft or rotting because they may allow rain into your attic.  Rotted wood may be a sign of bigger problems.  Get it inspected.
  • Trim branches and shrubs that are touching your home which can provide a pathway for bugs or excess moisture to enter your home. Thin out trees that are near your home to allow Monsoon winds to pass through those trees- the last thing you want is a tree on your roof. This is my house.  Do as I say, not as I did...

OR- call Lyons Roofing.  We offer affordable Roof tune-ups and of course if you suspect your roof is approaching the end of its useful life-inspections are always FREE!
