 March 2014
Dear CIM community,

It is with gratitude that I greet you during this busy month of March. On behalf of all of the students, staff and instructors at the CIM, I would like to thank each and every one of you for your contributions to the Center for Irish Music at our annual fundraiser, igse CIM, A Gaela Event that happened on Saturday, February 22nd.

Your generosity makes a difference in our community! You supported CIM in so many ways; by donating rare and generous items to the silent auction and raffle, by attending and bringing guests to the Celtic Junction and by volunteering your time to make the event a success. Many of you contributed in more than one way! Without your support, the CIM would not be the thriving music school that it is.  Thank you!

I hope you will have a chance to take in some of the amazing music that is coming through the Twin Cities this month. Be sure not to miss the IMDA events at the Landmark Center on March 16th and 17th featuring many CIM students.  I'd like to draw special attention to Dervish's concert this Thursday, 7:30pm at the Cedar Cultural Center. Dervish is one of the best traditional Irish bands out there and you won't want to miss them performing right here in the Twin Cities!

Happy Saint Patrick's day season!

--Norah Rendell, CIM Executive Director

To see which time slots are open and to sign up, please click here.  If you have any questions, please e-mail Emily at [email protected].

Jim Rogers,
Honorary Eigse Chair

Thank you to our honorary chair, Jim Rogers, the Director of the Center for Irish Studies at The University of St. Thomas.  We are lucky to have this Center for Irish Studies so close to us here at CIM and we hope for increased connections in the future.  As Jim stated in his welcome note at Eigse:

Irish music, and the ways in which it is
perpetuated and developed here, is now a
     thriving and community-wide cultural treasure.
Irish music is a bridge between generations, a
badge of identity, and a major port of entry into
                                 the whole of Irish culture.

The Center for Irish Music would like to acknowledge the 2014 igse event committee led by the Event Chair, Teisha Magee.  Thank you to Emily Flagstad, Mike & Bev O'Connor, Becky Bollinger, Erin Thomasson, Mike Lynch, Todd Menton, Carillon McBurnie, JoAnn Vano, Marty Ochs, Greg Padden, Dave McKenna, Chris & Shea Eliasen, and Erika Nelson for your leadership that made the event such a success.

IMDA Logo The IMDA's Educational
Grant
Program
The Irish Music & Dance Association offers educational grants to help students of any age to pursue an interest in the traditional arts of Ireland. Grants may be used for classes, fees, travel expenses, equipment purchases or other purpose which supports the applicant's learning.

The IMDA's goal is to help students who love Irish music or dance to continue their study, move to the next level of mastery and share their interests with others. They ask grant recipients to bring their new skills back to the community by performing at an IMDA event. They hope that recipients of IMDA Educational Grants will continue their study long into the future and, in so doing, enhance the cultural life of our community. The Irish Music and
Dance Association considers the program an investment in the future.

Since its start in 2006, the program has made grants to musicians, dancers and students of the Irish (Gaelic) language. The recipients have used their grants for travel expenses, to help with the purchase an instrument, and for classes. The options are as broad as the ideas of the applicants.

For more information and to download a grant application, please visit the IMDA's website.  Applications are due by April 15, 2014.
