CIM Instructor News!
Congratulations to Mattie Ernst
who just received a grant from the Irish Music and Dance Association (IMDA) of the Twin Cities to study the design and construction of Irish dance solo dresses. She will be researching the history of dance costumes as well as examining real dresses. This will culminate in the creation of a sewing pattern that she or others can use to create these beautiful garments.
CIM song instructor Shawn McBurnie

Dear CIM supporters and students,
Welcome to May! As we usher in spring we welcome back our executive director, Norah Rendell, from maternity leave on May 6th. She has had a glorious two months off from full time work with new son Henry and husband Brian Miller, but we are happy to have her back!
Please take a moment to check out all of our upcoming events at CIM. We are excited to yet again be offering our community the chance to work with renowned traditional Irish musicians at our Minnesota Irish Music Weekend, June 13-16
. And our Spring Student Recitals
are coming up this Sunday, May 5th. At the end of May we are hosting a fundraiser concert for our advanced youth ensemble
and registration is open now for our summer classes and camps
- sign up early, space is limited. As always, we are happy to share other events in the community with you through our upcoming events column, at left.
We are delighted that a large group of students from CIM (including our advanced youth ensemble) will be travelling to St. Louis this month to compete at the Midwest Fleadh Cheoil (scroll down on linked page for more information). These student musicians have been rehearsing diligently for their competitions and are so thankful for your donation to the youth travel fund that contributed greatly to allowing so many of our students to attend.
As always, we thank you for your generous support of the Center for Irish Music. We look forward to seeing you soon.

The Minnesota Irish Music Weekend pairs world-class traditional Irish musicians and teachers with learners of all ages and abilities for a weekend of workshops, lectures, dancing, sessions, and a rare and virtuosic Saturday night concert.
For information and registration, visit our website.
MIM offers a half-day beginner program for children ages 7-11, a 3-day intermediate to advanced program for teens, and a variety of workshops for adults on fiddle, flute, whistle, piano, uilleann pipes, sean-nós song, and more.
Irish music aficionados who may not sing or play an instrument will enjoy the lectures on special topics and interviews of visiting artists hosted by Dáithí Sproule.
The Saturday night Master Concert is a signature event of the Minnesota Irish Music weekend. The concert not only showcases each visiting musician's artistry and repertoire, but offers both classic and unique musical pairings. This year's concert will feature the synchronicity of the Cotters' duet, the legacy of the O'Briens' repertoire, the distinctive vocal styling of Meaití Jó, and the genre-bending virtuosity of McAuley.
Tickets can be purchased for individual events (workshops/lectures/concert), or the entire weekend. Reduced hotel rates are also available.

Please speak to your or your child(ren)'s instructor about which tunes or songs you would like to share with the community. We guarantee many photographic moments!
Please note that due to a concert that evening in studio 1, the first two recitals will be in the larger studio, but the adult recital will be held in the smaller studio 2.
As always, we will have a potluck celebration following each of the recitals. Please bring something to share!
