January 18

January 19
Don't miss an evening with two local treasures, Daithi� Sproule and Laura MacKenzie. 8pm at the Riverview Cafe and Wine Bar.
Kick up your heels at the monthly ceili at The Celtic Junction. 7-10pm with live music from the Twin Cities Ceili Band!
January 20
All CIM students are invited to join in our Family Session from 2-4:30pm at CIM. All instruments and levels are welcome! Come share the tunes you're working on in a casual, supportive environment.
February 1
All CIM students are encouraged to take part in the music competition portion of the O'Shea Irish Dance Feis at Mall of America. Students must register via Feisworx by January 17th. For more information, e-mail Emily. View the music competition details within the feis syllabus here.
February 23
Dress up in your finest and join us for a wonderful evening to celebrate traditional Irish music! Reserve your tickets now for Eigse CIM, A Gaela Event. More details and links in the column, at right.

2013 is off to a great start here at the CIM!
Looking back, 2012 was a particularly wonderful year for the CIM including the creation of two new ensembles, three new children's classes, and class offerings in Irish language and mythology from D�ith� Sproule.
In 2012, we honored young fiddler and uilleann piper Emiliano Morales with the Timothy Fitzgerald Memorial Scholarship and celebrated with the Advanced Youth Ensemble as they travelled to the midwest fleadh in Chicago qualifying to compete in the international
In the meantime, however, now is the time to reserve your tickets for Eigse CIM: A Gaela Event on February 23rd, and to register for a new class during spring term.

It is in this spirit that we gather for an evening to raise funds for The Center for Irish Music and the mission of handing down traditional Irish music. This semi-formal event includes two ticket options for attendees: come early to share a meal provided by Cara Irish Pubs, or join us later in the evening for the silent auction and concert featuring the stellar traditional Irish music of the CIM Instructors who boast recording, award winning, and world touring artists among their number. THIS SPRING AT CIM: Paddy O'Brien Tune Collection/Apprenticeship Project
Accordionist and tune collector Paddy O'Brien (originally from Co. Offaly) recently received a Folk and Traditional Arts grant from the MN State Arts Board to record another 500 melodies for The Paddy O'Brien Tune Collection. As part of the project, Paddy will be acting Artist-in-Residence at the Center for Irish Music offering free workshops on Sunday afternoons to interested CIM students and teachers of all melody instruments. A full description of the project and details are on the Student Info tab. Please note that participants must be current CIM students and able to attend at least seven out of the nine sessions to take advantage of this amazing opportunity! Recording devices are mandatory. Every 2nd & 4th Sunday from 2:30-4:00pm, Feb 10-June 9. Paddy O'Brien is a fiscal year 2012 recipient of a Folk and Traditional grant from the Minnesota State Arts Board. This activity is funded, in part, by the arts and cultural heritage fund as appropriated by the Minnesota State Legislature with money from the Legacy Amendment vote of the people of Minnesota on November 4, 2008.
