News from the Headwaters Equine Leadership Group
The Headwaters Equine Leadership Group is pleased to announce a new member of the HELG committee.
Jim Boyd is President & CEO of the Brampton and Caledon Community Foundation and a resident of Erin. Jim has extensive and varied experience in finance, politics and community involvement. His background combined with a life-long passion for horses will be a strong contribution to HELG.
Please join us in welcoming Jim to the Headwaters Equine Leadership Group.
HELG has formed two new sub-committees for Education and Government Relations.
The Headwaters Horse Country Education Sub-Committee has been formed to cultivate a foundation for equine education in the Headwaters region (Caledon, Dufferin, Erin and King Township). Initiatives encourage and promote educational activities to engage industry and make Horse Country accessible to everyone.
The Government Relations Sub-Committee has been formed to further develop the partnership between Headwaters Horse Country, regulatory agencies, industry organizations and the municipalities in the Headwaters Region and to cultivate a flow of information between our partners with regard to Horse Country.

Horse Country Art Contest
Headwaters Horse Country is looking for a signature artwork to represent Horse Country.
All two and three-dimensional art, regardless of category or media are eligible for this competition.
This is an equine art competition. The art submitted must be representative of Headwaters Horse Country. However, horses are not a required element in the design.

Pan Am Countdown
The games begin July 10, 2015. That's less than 500 days away!
The contractor team has been selected for the next phase of construction at the Caledon Equestrian Park and on January 27, 2014 the old pavilion came down. View a video of the event and the latest press release for next phase of preparation at the Caledon Equestrian Park.

Ontario Belgian Horse Association's Spring Horse Sale and Horse Pull March 21 - 22, 2014
On March 21st & 22nd, the Ontario Belgian Horse Association will be hosting the Spring Horse Auction Sale and Horse Pull at the OAS Event Centre.
On Friday evening come and witness the strength and endurance of the draft horses as the Light Division Horse Pull starts at 7 pm. followed by the Heavy Division Horse Pull. $10.00 Admission price. On Saturday March 22nd at 9:30 am. the no charge venue starts with an equipment auction followed at 12:30 pm by the horse auction.
Can-Am All Breeds Equine Expo
March 28 - 30, 2014
What better way to experience "The Year of the Horse" in the Hills of the Headwaters region than by attending Canada's premiere equine extravaganza, Can-Am All Breeds Equine Expo? Running three days - March 28, 29, and 30, at the OAS Event Centre - this huge annual event both enlightens and entertains its visitors with an astonishing range of talent, shows, and shopping opportunities. The celebrated Australian horseman, Guy McLean, hosts a series of engaging talks daily in the Home Hardware Main Arena and headlines Can-Am's new Evening Extravaganza. Other presenters include Russell Guire and Terry Myers, while a full slate of renowned clinicians will provide insightful practical tips on everything from equine surgery to saddle fitting, nutrition, and communications.Heartland actress Amber Marshall will also be on hand on Youth Day (Sunday, March 30) to speak with fans in an hour-long Question-and-Answer session. Winter in Horse Country
When will this winter weather end?
If we believe Groundhog Day folklore, we are in for a few more weeks of winter. Though winter may be windy and cold, here are some photos to remind us that it can also be quite beautiful. These photographs were taken by Susan Wood on her property in Rockwood during the 2013 holiday ice storm.

This wonderful photo was taken at the Orangeville Fair and was submitted by Karen Lada from Spring Gate Meadows.
On their farm located at 387181 20th Sideroad, RR1 in Mono, Ontario (519-938-9806), Karen and her husband Ted specialize in Tennessee Walking Horses and Miniature Horses. They enjoy bringing people of all ages together with their horses in the therapeutic environment of their farm.
