Jefferson County Restaurant Review Crew

Your favorite Jefferson County Fish Fry Review Crew is going to mix it up in 2015. We have reviewed fish fries in Jefferson County for the last two years - and while we're sure there are many more great fish fries that we have yet to review. we decided to change course (and evenings!) and just review great restaurants - and a greater selection of their menus!

So - look for our monthly reviews to continue - and we may be going back to some of the great restaurants we've already showcased - but this time, you'll get a chance to experience many different items on their menus!

To start the year off right, we reviewed the brand new Midpoint Eatery in Johnson Creek.

Midpoint Eatery and Sports Pub

385 Wright Road

Jefferson, WI

(920) 699-9174

When I mentioned to a friend at coffee that my family had dined at the Midpoint Eatery & Sports Pub in Johnson Creek, he crinkled his nose saying:

"Never heard of the place. Where is it?"

"It's that new sports themed place just across the access road from Menard's."

"Oh yeah! When did it open?"

"Yesterday."

"I have been waiting for the place to start up. Think of it: to be able to make the trip to Menard's really worthwhile by grabbing a beer and a burger after picking up some 2x4's. It doesn't get any better than that!"

He wanted to know all about our visit. And now, you will too.

We wandered in at 4:30pm to get the lay of the land. The hostess stand is right there as you enter, and we were greeted by several lovely ladies, eager to help. From this vantage point one can view the whole setup. To the left, two dining areas separated by a permanent partition and a separate private meeting room took up roughly half the space. The hidden kitchen lay straight ahead. Turning right, a spacious bar with several tables and a fireplace provided a warm, cozy atmosphere. Flat screen TV's with every imaginable sport represented left no doubt as to the theme of The Midpoint.

We opted for a seat at the bar to wait for the rest of the gang. An extensive list of libations beckoned. A Lienie's Vanilla Porter was selected while chatting with the friendly bartender and scoping the place out. Spacious is the best word to describe the bar area. I like the fact that the dining and bar areas are distinct and separate, and noted that folks in the bar could order off the full menu as well. The fireplace is a nice added touch in the overall design. Televisions are well-positioned to allow attentive watching or just to glance for a score or replay from time-to time. High ceilings add a nice dimension.

When the rest of our group arrived, we were seated promptly at our reserved table. Menus in hand, and drinks ordered, we decided appetizers would be a great way to start: Cheese Curds and Calamari Sticks were chosen. The Curds were good, but never had we tasted what turned out to be delicate strips of calamari that resembled fish sticks. They were served with hot pepper jelly and were so delicious that we are still talking about them! We will order them again and again. We all ordered burgers for our first Midpoint meal and were not disappointed. They came out juicy and well-seasoned on a variety of buns. Midpoint offers a variety of buns paired with themed burgers. We ordered the Midpoint Supreme and the Midpoint Burger. Both delicious, they came with a large portion of Texas sized fries, most of which we took home to enjoy later.

You don't have to pick up 2x4's (like my friend) or shop at Kohl's (like my wife) to enjoy the Midpoint Eatery & Sports Pub. There is something for everyone. A great layout, good food, an extensive list of libations - all in comfortable surroundings make the Midpoint Eatery & Sports Pub a much-appreciated destination for anyone looking for great food in Johnson Creek.

Check it out. You'll be glad you did.

January 3, 2015 - Good Rockin' Live

This live concert event pays tribute to the birth of rock and roll and the music legends that Sun Records helped propel to stardom. In 1952, Sun Studios opened up shop in a small storefront in Memphis, TN, setting off a chain of events that would change the course of musical history. In a few short years, this little record company produced superstars such as Elvis, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, Roy Orbison and B.B. King. Good Rockin' Live tells the tale of how rock was born through the music and stories of those who lived it.
