The Food Network Comes to Whitewater
Well actually, Whitewater and the Food Network went to Wausau!
Chef Tyler Sailsbery and Sarah Smith of the very successful Black Sheep in Whitewater have launched a new restaurant - Casual Joe's - a food court restaurant located in the Wausau Center Mall in Wausau, WI.
On Monday, July 22, Tyler and Sarah - Team Casual Joe's - competed against Team Wrap Trap on the Food Network. The ultimate challenge was to see which team could realize the highest profits during a timed selling session. Team Wrap Trap created healthy salads and wraps, while Team Casual Joe's created Wisconsin comfort food - macaroni and cheese with bacon, brats and barbeque. Over a five-day period, filming twelve hours per day, the one-hour televised competition showcased some mouthwatering selections, and Team Casual Joe's was the hands-down winner. The prize includes a free one-year lease at Wausau Center Mall to get the restaurant up and running.
Chef Tyler Sailsbery has found great success with his gourmet restaurant, The Black Sheep, and was looking to branch out to a more casual venue. Black Sheep waitress Sarah Smith was looking to further her hospitality career and thus, the idea for Casual Joe's was born. They contacted the Food Network and applied to be competitors on Food Court Wars.
Casual Joe's opened on Monday, July 22 at the Wausau Center Mall. "I'm doing a bit of traveling right now - up to Wausau to assist Sarah as she launches this new endeavor, and then back to Whitewater to lead The Black Sheep," said Sailsbery. "It's pretty crazy right now!"
Casual Joe's can be found at the Wausau Center Mall - 262-458-8881 - www.casualjoes.com.
The Black Sheep is located at 210 W. Whitewater Street in Whitewater - 262-458-4751 - www.eatatblacksheep.com.

Jefferson County Fish Dish Review Crew Mulligans on the Green at the Lake Mills Golf Club
Mulligans on the Green
Lake Mills Golf Club
800 S Main St
Lake Mills, Wisconsin
920-648-5013
www.mulligansonthegreen.com
On a recent Friday evening, your Fish Dish Review Crew landed "on the Green" - Mulligan's On The Green that is - at the Lake Mills Golf Club on the south side of Lake Mills, Wisconsin. The entrance is a ramp from the spacious parking lot. The door opens to a lounge area adjacent to the long bar and hostess station. Looking for a view? Large picture windows offer the soothing view of the outdoor patio and the golf course beyond. Having made a reservation, we were seated in one of the many thoughtfully laid out dining areas. Soft lighting and earth tones complete a sense of relaxed ease.
The "Supper Club Menu," served daily after 5pm, reflects the recently installed Le Cordon Bleu trained chef, Josh Collins. For instance, the "Supper Club Burger" offers a choice between traditional beef or a Portobello mushroom cap and a Forest Mushroom Cavatappi, both of which intrigue me as I write this.
But on to the fish!
The Friday Night Specials feature Tyranena (from our famous local brewery) beer-battered North Atlantic Cod or baked Talipia served three different ways: Spicy Blackened Cajun Rubbed Pan-Seared Talipia, Lemon Peppered Talipia or Baked Talipia with Tarragon Hollandaise Sauce. The large, juicy chunks of Cod had a light coating of beer batter which married well with the tangy tartar sauce. All Talipia offerings were masterfully prepared and delicious, but DO order the Tarragon Hollandaise Sauce for any one of them. The sauce option is a refreshing and delicious change from the usual tartar sauce. Our group could not get enough of it!
For a few dollars more, add two pieces of Blackened Chicken with Saint Louis style barbecue sauce. The chicken was perfectly done and the sauce was homemade by Chef Collins. Terrific!
The sides? Rye rolls, coleslaw, tater tots, french fries, house-made chips, baked potato or potato pancake - all of which stood up well and complemented the fish and chicken. I noticed on the daily menu that sweet potato fries are offered for an additional $0.50. We suggest adding the sweet potato fries to the evening offerings.
Other fish offerings include Stone Ground Salmon, Butterfly Shrimp, Sriracha Basa (pan fried catfish with light sriracha cream and pico de gallo) and the Pan Fried Walleye which one of our party ordered. The perfectly turned, flaky Walleye was so big he had to take a piece home. Fine dining!
Service was attentive and friendly, bathrooms clean and tidy and the restaurant area well maintained (tables bussed and reset promptly.) We ordered the soup specials for the evening - Seafood Chowder and Chicken Curly Noodle Soup. Both were flavorful and delicious.
Solid work from the new kitchen staff combined with Supper Club ambiance made for a winning combination. We gave Mulligan's On The Green at the Lake Mills Golf Club a 4.5 on a 5.0 point scale.
Mulligan's "Daily Menu" is comprised of Appetizers, Soups, Salads, Wraps, Burgers and other Sandwiches, and Home Made Pizza.
The kitchen opens every day at 11:00am and the after 5:00pm "Supper Club Menu" is served daily except Sunday, when Mulligan's Sunday Brunch is offered.
Make Mulligan's a regular stop on your Fish Fry itinerary - or any other day of the week. You'll be glad you did!

August 27-28, 2013 - The Taylors in Christian Concert
The Taylors are a family quartet from the heart of North Carolina. Jonathan, Suzanne, Christopher and Lindsey are dedicated to stirring up the faith of the Christian community as well as reaching others with the good news of Jesus Christ. The Taylor siblings grew up in a small country church where their father was a Southern Baptist minister and their mother the minister of music. With their mother's guidance, it was around the church piano that The Taylors learned their four-part family harmony. God is at the center of their ministry and their hearts. Growing up in a Christian home reinforced their faith and values and created in each of them a strong desire to proclaim their salvation through the ministry of music. In 2008, they won First Place in the Talent Showcase of the National Quartet Convention.
They are also the 2008 NC State Singing Convention Grand Champions and were nominated Top 5 Horizon Group of the Year for 2011 by fans of The Singing News.
