Glacial Drumlin Trail
Sections of the Glacial Drumlin State Trail will be closed temporarily for bridge repairs.
Two large bridges that cross the Crawfish and Rock rivers, along with a group of 11 bridges on the western end of the trail in Waukesha County will be worked on.
Work on the largest bridge on the trail in the Lake Koshkonong area is scheduled to start April 22 and be completed by May 13.
Bridgework will mainly involve replacing the decking, and sub-decking as necessary, and three smaller bridges will be removed and replaced with culverts. This will increase their lifespan and improve user safety.
Call (920) 648-8774 for additional details on the western part of the trail, and (262) 646-3025 for the eastern portion of the trail.

Jefferson County Fish Dish Review Crew Cold Spring Inn
Cold Spring Inn
N1431 Highway N - Whitewater, Wisconsin
(920) 563-2056
www.thecoldspringinn.com
Your fish fry review crew hitched up the wagons in April, meeting at the Cold Spring Inn, just 2.6 miles north of downtown Whitewater on Highway N.
The parking lot was jammed at 5:55pm, a good sign. As we entered the busy bar area, I worried that our 6:00pm reservation would not be met. My fears are laid to rest as we were shown to our table immediately by the friendly hostess and waitress.
We dig into the fresh, well-appointed salad bar which boasted hand-cut vegetables, delicious salads and crisp lettuce with a variety of dressings. Three types of delicious, hot rolls (wheat, white & rye) were replenished promptly.
And then, we were ready for our entrees...
Seafood is offered Deep Fried or Steamed, and we ordered some of both. The Cod & Chicken all-you-can-eat special arrived piping hot. The cod, lightly coated and delicious, was accompanied by an exceptional tartar sauce, proclaimed "reminiscent of an old favorite fish fry restaurant's concoction" by one of our party. The baked chicken arrived moist and lightly seasoned. The fish and chicken were cheerfully replenished.
The stand-out Lake Perch is very fresh, with no fishy taste. So good, in fact, that not a scrap was left to take home.
The excellent Baked Fish was moist and delicious.
Potato pancakes were not listed on the menu, but were available when requested - so we're glad we asked! Those potato pancakes were well worth the wait! Fried on the flat top to crunchy/crisp perfection, with the inside creamy and hot, we ordered a second helping. The potato pancakes alone are worth the trip to the Cold Spring Inn.
The Cold Spring Inn staff keeps it clean. Beige vinyl covers the tables with paper napkins. The décor is what can best be described as "Wisconsin Supper Club," with a hodge-podge of decorations.
Bathrooms are clean and tidy.
Our Fish Fry Review Crew all agree: The Cold Spring Inn is a great place to gather the gang and worth the trip. One request: please get those Potato Pancakes on the menu permanently!

Rock River Water Trail - a new National Water Trail!
The Rock River Water Trail has been designated into the National Water Trails System by Secretary of the Interior, Ken Salazar, according to a statement by the National Park Service in Washington, DC.
The National Water Trails System is a distinctive national network of exemplary water trails of local and regional significance that are cooperatively supported and sustained. The trail system has been established to protect and restore America's riverways, shorelines and waterways and to increase access to outdoor recreation on shorelines and waterways.
The Rock River West Trail is the first national water trail in both Wisconsin and Illinois.
The Rock River Water Trail links 11 counties in both states along the 320-mile river course, from the headwaters above the Horicon Marsh in Fond du Lac and Dodge Counties to the confluence with the Mississippi River at Rock Island, Il. The water trail is a delineated path on the river that connects access sites, resting places and attractions for users of water craft.
Benefits of the designation include national promotion and visibility, with use of the National Water Trails System logo, and opportunities to obtain technical assistance and funding for planning and implementing water trail projects.
These benefits include a positive economic impact from increased tourism, assistance with sustainability projects, increased protection for outdoor recreation and water resources, and contributions to public health and quality of life from maintaining and restoring watershed resources.
Information on the National Water Trails System is available here.
Additional information can be found at www.rockrivertrail.com.

May Events in Jefferson County
(Please double-check our website to verify dates and times.)
April 18-June 9, 2013 - Annie Get Your Gun
Three of the greatest names in American Musical Theatre - Richard Rodgers, Oscar Hammerstein and Irving Berlin - came together to create one of the most original and beloved musical comedies of all time, ANNIE GET YOUR GUN. Many shows claim to be classics but this one truly is. It tells the tale of Annie Oakley - the world's greatest sharpshooter - and her topsy turvy, hilarious journey to find fortune, fame, and true love. Along the way she meets Buffalo Bill, Chief Sitting Bull, and an array of colorful characters who help her in her quest. Yet they still find time to sing some of the greatest songs ever to be sung on Broadway. Every song is a hit including "Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better," "The Sun in the Morning and the Moon At Night," "I Got Lost in His Arms," and that great anthem of the American stage "There's No Business Like Show Business."
Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday & Sunday Matinee arrival 10:30am, Thursday & Saturday Evening arrival 5pm, Sunday midday 2:30pm.
The Fireside Dinner Theatre, 1131 Janesville Avenue, Fort Atkinson
