from Academia Barilla Academia Barilla, the most respected culinary school in Italy, have gathered together the treasured recipes of their world-renowned chefs to share them with cooks of all skill levels!     All recipes featured in this line of fun-shaped, "50 Easy Recipe" series offer easy-to-follow instructions as well as cooking tips and techniques to ensure deliciously perfect results.
Here's a "taste" of what's inside:
Pumpkin Jam 1 lb., 5 oz. chopped, cooked pumpkin (double that amount of raw pumpkin) 1 lb., 4 oz. brown sugar 1/3 C water juice of 1/2 lemon  Wash the pumpkin, peel, and cut into pieces, removing seeds and filaments, then steam for about half an hour or until soft. Add sugar and let sit for an hour. Add water, bring to boil and add lemon juice; boil for 5 minutes. Pour into four-12 oz. jars that have been heated in oven, seal, & turn upside-down until cooled.

October is finally here which means our 40th Annual Christmas Open House will soon be here, too ! We at The Village Shoppes have been planning for this month all year long! Although our Christmas Open House is the star-studded highlight of the month, there are also a few other events that we should pay tribute to... Christopher Columbus landed in America on October 12, 1492.  On October 1, 1896, rural mail delivery began.  On October 5, 1947 the first presidential address was telecast from the White House by Harry S. Truman.  But the event that should never be overlooked is... October is National Cookie Month!  And, just in case you're wondering, fresh-out-of-the oven, warm, ooey, gooey chocolate chip cookies are my favorite! (Hint-hint.)
