HALFWAY DAY CELEBRATION

Thurs., 1/29

Today is the 89th day of school and that means Halfway Day is the next day we have school. That means we will be halfway through the school year and halfway to summer vacation! Right now with two snow days on Tuesday, 1/27 and Wednesday, 1/28, the 90th day of school will be Thursday, January 29th. This will be Pierce's 23rd year recognizing Halfway Day in creative and philantropic ways. Students and staff celebrate by dressing in halves and making a donation of a half dollar for New Pathways, a halfway house for teens sponsored by Brookline Community Mental Health. Enjoy the snow days, stay safe and see you on Thursday, Halfway Day!
Sincerely, Dr. Smith-Mumford

2ND ANNUAL PIERCE CALDECOTT NIGHT!

TOMORROW: Thurs., 1/29, 5-7pm @ Pierce Library

Each year, the American Library Association nominates and awards the prestigious Caldecott medal to the best picture book of the year. As part of our library program, Pierce students in K-3 have been learning about the picture book evaluation process and reviewing and analyzing the top contenders. For the last two months, students, teachers, and families have been reading as many of our "Caldecott Contenders" as possible. Students, teachers, and K-3 families are invited to visit the Pierce Library, anytime between 5-7 p.m., to take one last look at the "Caldecott Contenders" and place their vote. Come find your favorite books, find a quiet corner of our library to share a story, or participate in one of our many Story times (starting at 5:15 p.m., we will have Story times scheduled every 15 minutes until 6:45 p.m). Students unable to attend Caldecott Night will have a chance to vote at school the following day. Please take a look at the list of "Caldecott Contenders". We look forward to seeing you! Happy Reading!!!

The chocolate is an extra-special treat for residents, especially since Valentine's day is just around the corner. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
