"GREEN" PARENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!
Recently there have been discussions about restarting a Pierce School Green Team, which would be designed to engage both students and parents and coordinated with the Pierce School Administration.
Thank you to the parents who expressed an interest in serving as a Green Team Speaker! We are still seeking more parents to be guest speakers. If you work professionally in the environmental, energy, sustainability, science or related field or have an issue you are passionate about, please share your wisdom. Interested parents, please contact Crystal@ISESplanning.com.
In other Pierce Green news, congratulations to a fellow Pierce parent on the launch of BTW, a beautiful new magazine about running an environmentally conscious household. BTW ("Behind the Walls") focuses on what families need to know about running a clean-energy, toxin-free home. It covers everything from affordable sustainable building practices and chemical-free decorating, to teaching your kids about earth-friendly habits.

_______________________________________CELEBRATE FOOD DAY THIS FRIDAY Enjoy breakfast with your family, Fri., 10/24, 7:30am @ Cafeteria Every October 24, thousands of events are organized throughout the country to celebrate, learn about, and enjoy real food. This year, Brookline will hold family breakfasts at all K-8 schools. Students and families are invited to the cafeteria to enjoy oatmeal bars with optional toppings such as raisins, nuts, and real maple syrup. Food Day is a nationwide celebration and movement toward more healthy, affordable, and sustainable food. Food Day aims to bring us closer to a food system with "real food" that is produced with care for the environment, animals, and families who grow, harvest, and serve it. Please contact Lynne Karsten for more information at lkarsten@brooklinema.gov or 617-730-2336, and check out the Brookline Dept. of Public Health's Facebook page for yummy recipes. _______________________________________ PIERCE FAMILY DIRECTORY HAS BEEN UPDATED! We are pleased to let you know that the Pierce Family Directory has been updated to include the list of all students assigned to each class. Once all paper forms have been processed, families who indicate their agreement on the forms will have the contact information they choose to share added to the secure online directory. Once this occurs, parents will receive an email with further instructions for logging in. Class parents will be uploaded soon too. Questions? Please email Jennifer Hunt at piercefamilydirectory@gmail.com. _______________________________________ THANK YOU DONATORS AND PARADE PARTICIPANTS! Thank you to all the Pierce families who donated food and other goods to the Brookline Food Pantry through the Food on Wheels program. Also, thanks to all those families who paraded with us on Sunday to help us deliver all the food to the Pantry. We collected 124 bags of groceries from Pierce! The Staff at the Brookline Food Pantry were very pleased by our donations. The staff wanted us to relay their thanks and for everyone to know that the need continues to grow. They told us that our donations will help feed hundreds of families in Brookline! Please continue to support the Food Pantry throughout the year.
A special thanks goes to our Food on Wheels organizers: Marissa Heller-Treistman, Toby Raybould, and Jennifer Rothstein._______________________________________
