PIERCE SCHOOL GREEN TEAM UPDATE AND INQUIRY
We're excited to announce the revival of... the Pierce School Green Team! Coordinated with the Pierce School Administration, this fun and educational initiative will empower students to be leaders in environmental stewardship and activism, to live their lives sustainably, and to be good global citizens. Student-led, project-based activities will inspire students to take responsibility for improving the environment at their school, home, and/or in their community. Students will explore local, national and/or global environmental issues and their related social justice and economic connections - learning how actions affects the environment, as well as how the environment helps us and how we can help the environment.
Proposed initiatives:
- Green Team Forum, a speaker and/or film series for families;
- The Bridge Green Team Blog on eco-conscious, healthy living;
- PTO goal of net zero waste events;
- After-school Green Team Club for interested students (given logistical constraints, the Club will initially involve students in grades 6-8);
- Student-led general environmental audit of Pierce School via a science class;
- Exploration of STEM-related green curriculum models.
Parents, we need YOU to...
...serve as Guest Speakers for the speaker series, sharing your expertise or passion around an eco-issue;
...recommend relevant films;
...assist with Green Team/Forum activities;
...serve as bloggers for The Bridge Green Team Blog;
...share your interests and vision for Green Team/Forums;
...contribute to the Green Team's success by volunteering in any way!
Parents interested in contributing to the Green Team/Forums should contact Crystal Johnson at Crystal@ISESplanning.com. Thank you!
