Stay connected! Visit pierceschoolbrookline.orgPUBLIC HEARING ON SCHOOL SPACE - ORIG. SCHEDULED FOR TOMORROW - IS POSTPONED Rescheduled for early March, TBA The Capital Subcommittee's Public Hearing on specific school space recommendations, scheduled for Thurs., 2/6, has been postponed until early March. If, prior to then, you'd like to submit public comments/questions regarding the recommendations being considered, please e-mail Helen Charlupski, Capital Subcommittee Chair, at [email protected] or Alan Morse, School Committee Chair, at [email protected]. Background: five proposed solutions to address school overcrowding will be discussed, including the use of Old Lincoln School (OLS) during renovations. Some Pierce students may be temporarily relocated or permanently redistricted. Please read Superintendent Lupini's notice, which includes the five short-term facilities plans and additional recommendations, including relocation of grades 6, 7 and 8 from Pierce to OLS for the 2015-2016, 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 school years; and relocation of grade levels from multiple elementary schools according to the needs of those particular school(s) in a given year._______________________________________ OPEN MEETING RE: OLD LINCOLN SCHOOL TOMORROW, Thurs. 2/6, 7pm @ Pierce Cafeteria Concerned parents, unite! Come to this open meeting to generate ideas and organize around potential OLS issues affecting Pierce students. Since we have a few weeks before the Public Hearing (see above), let's get the conversation going in our community! This is a parent-organized meeting, not affiliated with Pierce or with the PTO. _______________________________________

PTO EXPENSES - WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO? Thanks to the great idea from beloved first grade teacher and PTO Teacher Rep David Weinstein, we are sharing how PTO funds are used each month. For January, PTO expenses and support went toward Pierce's Annual Skate Night; Techspoloration for Grades 3-4 Science; the Martin Luther King, Jr. Assembly for Grades 5-8; 5th Grade field trip to the Boston Symphony Orchestra; 6th Grade Pierce Play; 8th Grade visiting artist session on Shakespeare comprehension and accompanying Romeo & Juliet materials; mobile audio equipment for graduation and other events; and much more. Please contact the PTO Co-Chairs at [email protected] with questions._______________________________________
THANKS FOR A PRODUCTIVE PTO MEETING!
Thanks to the over 40 families who turned out for the PTO evening meeting last week. (A Google Group, Pierce Renovations and Space Committee, has been created for people who want to continue this important conversation.) POW #10: SUM OF DIGITS IS 24
Due Tues., 2/11
Please visit the POW page on the school website for details:
SOLUTION FOR POW #9 - WHAT'S MY DATE? There are 132 dates in each year that could be unclear (For each of the 12 months, there are 11 dates that could be reversed, and 12x 11=132). However, since the problem asks, how many "other dates" are unclear, the answer is technically 131. Both answers are accepted as correct.
