I've been getting a lot of calls lately from people interested in recording their life stories. But a funny thing happens to almost every one of them - they get a case of "overwhelm."
As in, how on earth do you begin to tell an ENTIRE LIFE STORY?
After working in this industry for over 20 years, there's a secret that I've learned for helping to solve the overwhelm, and it goes against everything I've ever learned about documentary filmmaking. It's in today's article and I hope it helps you if you're feeling a similar case of overwhelm.
I love when people use a milestone as motivation for sitting down and recording their stories, and I was happy to do this recently for Judy. We worked together to make the telling of her stories more manageable. I love what she shares in this short video clip about something she learned in nursery school and how it "stuck" years later.
I hope these tips have helped you feel less "overwhelm." If you're still feeling stuck, let me know. I'd be glad to help!
Warmly,
