ASCCA Leaders Meet with Senator Allen and Staff on SB 778
On Wednesday May 25, 2016, while attending the California Small Business Day in Sacramento, ASCCA members took advantage of the opportunity and went to the Capitol to lobby on behalf of the automotive repair industry.

ASCCA President Dennis Montalbano had an earlier one-one visit with Senator Allen regarding the oil change bill (SB 778) and discussed concerns that the industry has with the current version of the legislation.  Later, Dennis meet with Senator Allen's staffer, Tina Andolina and was joined by ASCCA members, John Villa, Rory Balmer, ASCCA Executive Director, Gloria Peterson and ASCCA lobbyist Jack Molodanof to discuss details of the bill.

The ASCCA group reiterated concerns with the existing version of the legislation and requested that Senator Allen amend the bill to require all currently unlicensed oil change service businesses to fall under the jurisdiction of BAR.  That ARD's should follow the vehicle manufacturer guidelines as a starting point when recommending oil drain intervals, but that if an ARD makes a recommendation (based on inspection) that deviates from vehicle manufacturer guidelines to explain why to the consumer and that any legislation must protect the consumers right to select an oil drain interval of choice.

ASCCA stressed that these amendments would improve the bill and provide a "real world" approach to protecting consumers while ensuring a fair and competitive automotive repair market place.  Senator Allen and his staff indicated that they would consider amending the bill and continue working with the industry to address any other concerns.

Overall, it was a very positive and productive meeting and demonstrates how ASCCA member lobbying efforts do make a difference.
