ASCCA What You Need To KnowJuly 20, 2015
Jack Molodanof: Suppliers of Auto Body Shops Should Care About the BAR, Protect Brands in California
Whether you provide equipment, services, etc., to the automotive repair industry in California, you should be aware of the important role the BAR plays with regard to your products and services and what steps you should take to protect and strengthen your brand. Here's a Q&A for vendors, which Repairer Driven News has presented here both for vendors selling in California and for those in other states looking to follow California's model.

Donate to ASCCA's Advocacy Fund

We're approaching $4,000 in the ASCCA Advocacy Fund, thanks to the recent raffle at the summer conference! Thank you to everyone who has donated! ASCCA established this fund to enhance our advocacy with the state legislature (e.g., legislative advocate's travel, ASCCA's annual legislative day lobbying, Government Affairs Committee initiatives). Help us reach our goal of $30,000, donate today.

Engage Your Customers on the Issue of Telematics

The ASCCA Public Relations committee is encouraging all ASCCA members to begin engaging their customers in a consumer education campaign on Telematics.  A flyer has been developed by the Committee for you to use in your shops.  Consider displaying these flyers and even attaching them to your customer invoices. The intent is to engage your customer in a dialogue with you so you can inform them of what Telematics is and the potential risk it presents to their right for privacy.  You can take this opportunity to inform your customer that through your association you are advocating on their behalf in an attempt to protect consumer privacy.

ASCCA Scheduled to Meet with OEHHA July 22

Re: Prop 65 Regulations

J. Molodanof sent an e-mail that included the comments that ASCCA provided to the Office of Environmental Hazard Assessment (OEHHA) regarding Prop 65, Clear and Reasonable Warning Regulations.  ASCCA has provided comments to regarding the Service Station and Vehicle, Repair Facilities Warnings (Environmental Exposures) signage requirement. ASCCA is seeking reasonable corrective action timeframes for facilities found in violation of the regulation.  ASCCA representatives Jack Molodanof along with executive director Gloria Peterson, and several other industry association leaders will be attending a meeting on July 22 with the OEHAA office.  ASCCA would welcome any feedback, concerns or direct experiences that member may have had regarding these signage requirements. Please direct comments to Jack at [email protected].

ASCCA Works to Develop Petroleum Product Enforcement FAQ

Legislative advocate, J. Molodanof has been in communication with the California Department Food & Agriculture (CDFA) Division of Measurements Standards of Petroleum Products regarding recent inspections of auto repair, quick lubes, car dealers and oil distributors. The inspections have included checking labeling of bulk tanks/drums/overhead reels and sampling of motor oil and automotive transmission fluid to determine whether it meets California minimum requirements. The most recent sweep occurred in the Bay Area, Fresno and San Diego.  As a result Jack started the dialogue with the Department about outreach and education and they have agreed to work with ASCCA to develop a frequently asked questions (FAQs) document that we can provide to our members.  If you have had recent experiences with these types of inspections that would lent itself to helping us further develop the FAQ document, please direct them to Jack at [email protected].
