Allstate is Considering Selling User Telematics Data
 Allstate's CEO, Thomas Wilson, said on May 28 that Allstate is considering not just collecting driver data, but selling it. Allstate is investing heavily in telematics, which they view as a potential additional profit source. Most customers are willing to give up their privacy, he said, if they are given a 10 to 20% discount on telematics.

California Senate Approves $13/hour Minimum Wage
 On June 1 California's Senate approved raising the minimum wage to $11 an hour on January 1, then to $13 an hour in 2017, and to tying the minimum wage to inflation starting in 2019. The minimum wage is currently $9 an hour and will go to $10 an hour on January 1. The bill now goes on to the Assembly for consideration. Read the article

Google's Self-Driving Cars Have Had 11 Accidents So Far
 Google has reported that their self-driving cars have been in 11 minor accidents over the past six years. These cars were tested on California roads and highways. Google said that in no cases was the self-driving car at fault and the accidents involved light damage and caused no injuries.

California Leads the Nation in Vehicle Thefts When the Keys are Left Inside

According to a report in Insurance Journal, California is number one when it comes to vehicles that are stolen with the keys left inside. Between 2012 and 2014, California had 19,597 such vehicle thefts. Sometimes this is due to inattentive owners, other times it is due to fraud -- the owners want the vehicles stolen.
