ASCCA had a great Team Weekend in Sacramento February 7-8. President Steve Vanlandingham led the board meeting and board members, chapter representatives, committee members and guests pitched in to conduct the business of our association and represent our industry. We will report more fully on this soon.
ASCCA Member Mike Fry/Titan Automotive Featured in February's SoCal Parts & People

Mike Fry, owner of Titan Automotive in Orange, an ASCCA member, is featured in the latest edition of Parts & People. In the article he credits his long-time membership in ASCCA with helping him run a successful shop. ASCCA members learn from each other and share information, he says. He also offers advice on marketing: "You have to have a mix of marketing strategies because you won't get enough response from one source," he says.

SoCal Gets Their Mail and Enters the Contest with 4 Entries; Trails NorCal 33-15 After 2 Weeks

We are two weeks into the ASCCA's countertop display contest and we are finally getting entries from SoCal shops -- 4 so far. Three of the four entries included last year's display, so that's 15 points total. Meanwhile, NorCal has had 10 shops send in photos, worth a total of 33 points. Consumers More Satisfied with Repairs at Independent Auto Shops than Franchised New-Car Dealerships, Survey Says

Consumer Reports conducted a survey of repair service satisfaction and found that consumers prefer independent repair shops to franchised new-car dealerships. The survey of Consumer Reports subscribers covered 121,000 vehicle repairs and was conducted in 2014.

ASCCA's Member of the Month for February: Darren Gilbert
Darren Gilbert of Gilbert Motor Service in Alhambra is ASCCA's Member of the Month for February 2015. He is very active in Chapter 5 and currently serves as chapter president. Darren has brought in several new ASCCA members and promotes our association every chance he gets. He lobbies for ASCCA members at our annual legislative days and attends all summer conferences. Darren also sets up classes for members and is always willing to help others. Congratulations, Darren!

Auto Care Association President/CEO's Blog: Millennials are Actually Quite Interested in Driving and Owning Cars

Citing a recent study conducted by MTV, Auto Care Association President and CEO Kathleen Schmatz refutes in her blog the commonly-held belief that for millennials -- the generation born from the early 1980s to late 1990s -- interest in owning and driving cars is on the decline. That's good news for auto repair shops!

NHTSA Recalls 2.1 Million Vehicles Over Airbags
Drivers of 2.1 million vehicles are being told to return to their car dealers to fix their air bags after a recall was issued. The cars are Honda, Toyota and Chrysler vehicles. The air bags may inflate while the car is running, when they are not supposed to.
