Countertop Display Election Result in Limbo for Six Days
The outcome of ASCCA'S countertop display contest will remain in doubt for six more days as contest officials tabulate and audit the approximately 200 entries send in from all across our vast state.

ASCCA 2014 President Mary Kemnitz claimed victory for NorCal on the basis of her own impromptu surveys of members, but SoCal Board Director Rocky Khamenian said he wasn't ready to concede and his own count had SoCal winning. The final and official count will be presented at the Chapter Representatives Meeting at the September Team Weekend, at 10 AM on Sunday, September 28.

ASCCA Member Mitch Schneider: Don't Lose Touch with Customers
ASCCA member Mitch Schneider, owner of Schneider's Auto Repair in Simi Valley, cautions in this week's Ratchet and Wrench that auto shop owners should beware of relying too much on social media to build their business. While social media is another way to connect to customers, it can't take the place of personally getting to know your customers, shaking their hands, and explaining repairs to them face to face.

ASCCA Member of the Month - September
The ASCCA's member of the month for September is Raul Salgado of Raul's Auto Repair in Azusa and Covina; he is a member of ASCCA Chapter 5 (Foothill)Raul was inspired to become involved in automotive repair by ASCCA members, particularly Gene Morrill and Craig Johnson. He was able to own and run his very successful repair shop through hard work, training, and by having the right people working for him. From being an ASCCA member, he has gained a network of friends and created the best shop. He advises new ASCCA members to get to know their fellow ASCCA members and get involved with their local chapter. If you are not a member, Raul says to become a member as soon as possible!

Is the NHTSA Too Close to the Auto Industry?
A column in CarTalk.com notes that too often former high-ranking National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) employees go on to work on behalf of the auto industry they were regulating. Is this "revolving door" causing the NHTSA to be lax in enforcing recalls?
