The ASCCA's member of the month for September is Raul Salgado of Raul's Auto Repair and Chapter 5 (Foothill). Raul's Auto Repair provides auto repair services for Azusa, Covina, and surrounding areas. We will have more information on this esteemed member in the next e-newsletter.

2014 ASCCA Board of Directors Elections Update
The total number of candidates for the Board of Directors elections is equal to the number of open seats, which is seven (7). Therefore, there will be no balloting process for this year's election. The nominees for the Board of Directors election are as follows:

Declan Kavanagh (Incumbent)
Rocky Khamenian (Incumbent)
Dave Kusa (Incumbent)
Jeffrey Stich (Incumbent)
Margie van Lierop (Incumbent)
Steve Vanlandingham (Incumbent)
Craig Wells

The next steps will be for the Chapter Representatives Committee (CRC) to review the slate of nominees and make a determination as to whether or not to elect them by acclamation during its meeting on September 27 in Sacramento. A final announcement on the outcome of the CRC's actions will be sent to you after the September 27 meeting.

Call or Write Governor Brown and Urge him to Not Sign AB 1522
AB 1522 (Gonzalez) is now with the governor for his signature or his disapproval. This is the bill to mandate paid sick leave, which ASCCA opposes. Call or  write to Governor Brown and tell him that you and ASCCA oppose this bill.

ASCCA's John Eppstein Recognized for Helping Out Cuyamaca College's General Automotive Program
On August 28, John Eppstein from John's Automotive Care in San Diego was presented with an appreciation certificate by Chris Barton of Cuyamaca College Automotive Technology for his full day's participation recertifying Cuyamaca College's General Automotive Program for another five years. John's shop also continues to hire some of the college's graduates and interns. Kudos to John for his support of Cuyamaca and ASCCA!
SoCal Leads 59-33 in Contest, Which Ends September 12

SoCal has a lead of 26 with two weeks to go in the ASCCA countertop display contest. We've gotten lots of requests for countertop displays here in the ASCCA home office, however, so we suspect there will be some entries sent in during the days ahead. Which side will win in the end? The deadline is September 12. The ASCCA's Facebook page shows updated results. Chapter reps from the losing region will serve winners sundae desserts at the September Team Weekend. Submit photos to Phil Boerner.

The 80-page Car Care Guide aims to help motorists gain an understanding of how to care for their vehicles, by addressing when, why and how maintenance is important.



Consumers Dissatisfied with Fancy Tech Systems in Cars Because . . . They Don't Work Well
(from The Los Angeles Times) According to a study by J.D. Power and Associates, consumers are frustrated with multimedia systems in cars because they don't work as well as those systems work in their other technology devices, such as smartphones. Built-in voice recognition systems and bluetooth connectivity are complained about the most.
