Stop AB 1522 -- Anti-Small Business Legislation
The bill to mandate paid sick leave, AB 1522 (Gonzalez), is scheduled for hearing in the Senate Appropriations Committee on August 4. ASCCA needs our members to write the members of the Committee asking that they oppose this bill. It is vital that members write Senator De Leon (D-Los Angeles) and voice their opposition. Senator De Leon is Chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee and has significant influence as to whether AB 1522 passes. We should ask him to vote no or to at least consider amending the bill to exclude small business.

The ASCCA's Facebook page has all the updates. Chapter reps from the losing region will serve winners sundae desserts at the September Team Weekend. The deadline to submit photos to Phil Boerner is September 12.

Tap Employees for New Ideas (R+W Insider)
Constant innovation is key in order to develop new processes that sustain a healthy, profitable business long term. But shop operators can't rely solely on their own thinking to move the business forward in a positive direction. Your staff is a key resource that should be utilized to regularly develop new ideas for efficiency, productivity, work quality and culture.

There is Strength in Numbers (R+W Insider)
As noted in this article, a lot of independent shops take "being independent" too literally. Too many independents think they have to be independent. If instead you seek out the help that groups like ASCCA offer, you'll meet some great people and succeed in business.
