HDOT and the byways team extends its congratulations to the Holo Holo Koloa Scenic Byway for receiving an American Planning Association Hawaii Chapter award in the category of Community Engagement. One of our byway nominees is holding its public meeting for the Maunalau-Makapuu byway, and and we offer a call for presentations at the Preserving the Historic Road Conference next September.

Fall is a particularly spectacular time to drive along America's Byways. If you're traveling soon, remember to check out www.byways.org for locations to experience foliage and all that the season has to offer. The national program offers a free map of all our National Byways and All American Roads upon request.

Holo Holo Koloa Awarded!

At the recent Hawaii Congress of Planning Officials' conference, the Hawaii Chapter of the American Planning Association recognized our friends at the Hookuleana LLC, Malama Koloa and the Poipu Beach Resort Association for their community engagement work in the Holo Holo Koloa Scenic Byway Corridor Management Plan (CMP). The APA says:
The Corridor Management Plan was developed through a broad-based inclusive community collaboration to plan, preserve, restore, promote and share the extensive and extraordinary intrinsic qualities of Kauai's South Shore. Scenic points are "roads that tell stories." ... The detailed plan includes qualities and resources important to the byway and by identifying the capital investments, economic benefits, management measures and funding resources necessary, this plan is comprehensive, ambitious and worthy of recognition.
