8TH GRADE CONDUCTS FIELDWORK IN WYOMING Students practiced their stewardship skills this week at the internationally-recognized Teton Science School in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. They've learned about social-ecological systems, fire ecology, aspen tree communities and more, while spotting bison, moose, deer and other animals on long hikes. The Lower School just opened a newly renovated play yard for PreK - kindergarten students which includes parallel bars, turning bars, a one-way rubber track for running and tricycle riding, artificial grass and a climbing structure called a Spaceball. NYU LAW EXPERT SPEAKS TO STUDENTS ABOUT VOTING RIGHTS Wendy Weiser, director of the Democracy Program at the Brennan Center for Justice at NYU Law, spoke to the Upper School about voting rights. She discussed the fear of in-person voter fraud, as well as the public's loss of faith in American democracy, and how these issues can create discriminatory voting restrictions. MIDDLE SCHOOL PERFORMS "RUNNING MAN" FLASH MOB Middle schoolers participated in a Running Man flash mob at the morning meeting to promote a healthy, fun, collaborative, inclusive, positive, risk-taking culture. The flash mob was inspired by R.J. Palacio's "Wonder," a young adult novel about a student's struggle to assimilate in Middle School, which the students are currently studying.

Next week will be a very busy and exciting week in Berkeley Carroll sports! Boys/Girls Varsity cross-country will compete in its championship meet and 3 Upper School teams enter the playoffs: Girls Varsity Soccer, Boys Varsity Soccer, and Boys JV Soccer. Go Lions! CROSS COUNTRY TEAM SETS RECORDS This week the cross country team paced extremely well and established many personal bests. Zach T. '19 became the first Berkeley Carroll cross country runner to take first overall as the race champion and Bryan T. '18, Eugenie H., '19 and Sophie A. '19 also medaled. Congratulations to the entire team! 7th GRADE PRACTICES TEAM BUILDING Seventh graders traveled to Adventure Park, where they reached outside their comfort zones on high ropes courses and bonded as a class. Seventh grade dean Ms. Adessa said, "Students were there to support, motivate, and inspire each other. New friends were made, fears were conquered and everyone went in with an open mind and a positive attitude." ARTS TEACHER PRESENTS AT INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE Tammy Nguyen recently presented her 2-book set,"Primate Cities," which has been acquired by the Yale University Library, at the Engaging with Vietnam Conference at the University of Hawaii. Ms. Nguyen surveyed Danang Cty by researching the maps, photography, drawings, and local interviews in a 1969 US military document and then wrote a story that combines Vietnamese myths, weather trends and current geopolitical conflicts with a narrative about a species of primate that lives there.
