BC STUDENT MAGAZINE WINS NATIONAL HONORS
Reflections, our Upper School student art and literary magazine, is one of only 52 high school magazines in the U.S. (and the only Brooklyn publication) to be named a 2017 Crown Finalist by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association.
The Crown Awards honor top student publications for their overall excellence as shown by their design, photography, concept, coverage and writing. A total of 1,100 publications were eligible for judging this year. Final results will be announced in March. Learn more. 
MIDDLE SCHOOLERS SCORE BIG IN DEBATE
Ava S. '21 and Lila S. '22 finished an invitational debate tournament in Harlem with an excellent record of three wins and zero losses for a second-place finish in public forum debate. They spoke about reasonable suspicion and probable cause standards as they apply to searches of students in U.S. schools. Ana M. '21 and Hannah W. '23 advocated for the abolition of the electoral college, the abolition of dress codes and the role of Big Pharma in American society in parliamentary debate.
MUSIC TEACHER WORKS ON INTERNATIONAL TOLERANCE PROJECT IN SWITZERLAND
Lower School Music Teacher Carolyn Sloan recently traveled to Switzerland to conduct 600 children singing her song "All We Wish for Is Peace" as part of the acclaimed Ship of Tolerance project. She says, "This project speaks to a need for us all to not only acknowledge, but embrace, our similarities and our differences." Read more about her experience on our blog.
SENIOR PRESENTS WORK AT TOPSHOP ART SHOW
Gala P. '17 presented two paintings at TopShop's Teen Dream art show earlier this month! The show, which featured work from more than 30 female-identifying artists from different backgrounds, was meant to "open up the dialogue on what matters most to girls growing up in today's world" while honoring female strength.

LOWER SCHOOLERS SAY "NO" TO BULLYING
Lower schoolers learned what bullying is and what they can do about it during a performance of Soren Bennick's The Power of One. The students all took the Power of One anti-bullying oath at the end of the show. Photos. 
THIS WEEK'S SENIOR SPEAKERS
This week's senior speakers were (left to right) Leah R., Kiara H. and Asya A.! Leah gave a heartwarming speech about the maternal figures in her life since her mother died when she was young and how they have always made her feel supported. Kiara talked about her love of food which makes some of her fondest memories feel complete and brings her closer to the people she cares about. Asya recounted how she came to live in the US, which began with an embarrassing moment abroad and encouraged students to think about which of their friends would stick by them after such an incident.
"LET'S MOVE DAY" AT THE LOWER SCHOOL
Lower schoolers learned all about living healthy and active lifestyles on Let's Move Day! Students competed in pool relay races, finished an obstacle course, performed a group dance, discussed balanced diets and more. Photos or click the above photo for a video.
