BC ADMINISTRATORS TO PRESENT AT NATIONAL CONFERENCE
Berkeley Carroll has been asked to present at the 2016 NAIS Annual Conference in San Francisco on what it takes to be a 21st century school. Head of School Bob Vitalo, Assistant Head of School for Program Brandon Clarke and and Board of Trustees Chair Lydia Denworth will discuss how to successfully lead a school to a new and challenging course in today's changing global environment. 

MAYOR'S OFFICE LAUDS 6TH GRADE'S GREEN SPACE IDEAS
The Mayor's Office and other city officials are writing our sixth graders to commend them for brochures they made about how green space impacts NYC.  This is part of the sixth grade's project-based learning unit addressing the question: What is the best balance between humans and plants in our city? Upper School Science Research and Design students reviewed and provided feedback on the brochures as well. Read one of the letters.

MIDDLE & UPPER SCHOOL CHOIR PERFORM
Nearly 100 students performed at the Middle and Upper School Choirs' "It's All About Love" concert on Wednesday. More photos and watch both choirs sing a mash-up of "I Want You Back" and "ABC."

LOWER SCHOOL CELEBRATES LUNAR NEW YEAR
Lower schoolers celebrated the Lunar New Year with shadow puppets, a skit about the 12 Chinese Zodiac animals and a performance of "Gung Hay Fat Choy" (Happy New Year). More photos.
ATHLETICS
The Berkeley Carroll School Varsity Boys defeated Friends Seminary 73-63 in triple overtime. Girls Varsity Basketball honored their sole senior and co-captain, Michelle M. '16, before their game against Trevor Day. The girls went on to win the game 51-24.  

SENIOR SPEAKERS
This week's senior speakers were Jimmy C. and Davis C.! Jimmy discussed how the desire to impress others makes us self-conscious and leads to insecurity. Davis talked about how you can't truly form your own opinions until you hear both sides and encouraged students to get involved in the 2016 presidential election. Read more

WORLD AFFAIRS CLUB DISCUSSES LEAD POISONING IN FLINT
Americans have known for several decades about the toxic effects of lead. Acclaimed author and BC parent Lydia Denworth wrote the book on this subject. At this week's Breakfast Club, she answered questions and recounted stories of the scientist who discovered the lead in the air we breathe and the doctor who documented the cruel impact of that lead on children's brains.  (Middle School and Upper School science and history classes will study this topic in coming months.) Read more

MOVIE PHOTOGRAPHER VISITS BC
Alison Cohen Rosa, a professional photographer who has shot movie stills for films such as "Birdman," spoke with Ms. Haber's photography class this week. She talked about her career, what makes a good photo and gave students advice about their own work."If you're passionate about what you do ... then the other stuff comes," she told the class.
