UPPER SCHOOL COMMEMORATES VETERANS DAY
Upper schoolers celebrated BC's first-ever Veterans Day assembly this week. Gil F. '16 spoke about the significance of Veterans Day and Kirsten E. '16 explained how poppies are seen as symbols of remembrance and hope. Students then made tissue paper poppies for a new art installation at Lincoln Place, reminiscent of the Tower of London's Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red installation.
Members of the Upper School choir sang "The Green Fields of France" and Ms. Heldring and Mr. Corfield read a poem by a WWI soldier. Students and faculty also watched a clip from the 1969 musical "Oh! What a Lovely War." More photos

STUDENT PROFILES: JULIA P. '15 AND JIMMY C. '16
"The curriculum here, compared to public school, is way different --it's a lot more rigorous. The community helped me integrate here. And there are many activities that help students learn to become leaders." - Jimmy C. '16 "Berkeley Carroll allowed me to develop my passion for writing. People have said that Berkeley Carroll was at least as challenging as the (college) they ended up going to. I feel almost over-prepared for the real world --thank you, Berkeley Carroll!" - Julia P. '15

3RD GRADERS RE-ENACT ELLIS ISLAND IN THE 1900s Once they were "checked" for illness and questioned (mostly in Spanish) by immigration "officers," the students got their passports stamped and were sent to take a citizenship test and recite the pledge of allegiance -although some were detained due to disease before they were allowed to "enter" the country.
BC SUPPORTS UNIV. OF MISSOURI STUDENTS OF COLOR More than 70 Upper School students wore black today, standing in solidarity with students of color at the University of Missouri. The effort was organized by Garrett C. '16 and Jules M-S. '16, co-leaders of the P.O.C. (People of Color) affinity group. Mizzou students have been protesting the administration's attitude toward racial issues on campus - an effort which has recently been thrust into the national spotlight. ATHLETICS Although mid-November and Thanksgiving are only two weeks away, the Berkeley Carroll winter sports season is now fully in gear and all of our teams have started practicing.
