8TH GRADE GO TO WYOMING TO STUDY IN THE TETONS
The 8th grade spent this week in Wyoming at Grand Teton National Park where they did fieldwork at the internationally-recognized Teton Science Schools learning about ecosystems, data collection, stewardship and more!
 
Check out their blog to get the scoop on what they did and saw, including leadership, teamwork and wildlife viewingchallenge courses, team-building on the low ropes,  finding elk vertebrae while hiking to a lake, studying lichen, observing live elk in the wild,  trail clearing, greeting their surprise morning visitor, and catching a beautiful landscape lit by the moon on their last night.
  

DR. HOLSBERG NAMED GRAMMY MUSIC EDUCATOR SEMIFINALIST
Congratulations to BC Arts Director Peter Holsberg, who was one of only 25 national semifinalists (and the only one from NYC) for the GRAMMY Music Educator Award this year! More than 4,500 nominees competed for the honor. Read more. 


THIS WEEK'S SENIOR SPEAKERS
This week's senior speakers were (left to right) Michelle M. and Jessie G.!  Michelle spoke about her conservative Filipino family. She explained how she (and they) have evolved since she has been at BC and how she is learning to be thankful for who they are.

Jessie talked about how everything has significance, no matter how small and that it is the small things that always count. Something that may seem insignificant to you, she said, may be be important to someone else. Read more.

 
4TH GRADE VISITS THE RIVER PROJECT
Our lower schoolers have been out on the town. 4th graders took a trip The River Project in conjunction with their study of the Hudson River ecosystem and watershed. Students saw sea squirts, spider crabs, toad fish, striped bass and grass shrimp.

 
ATHLETICS
Girls Varsity Soccer took the lead in the AAIS standings by defeating Brearley 3-1. Boys Varsity and JV Soccer rebounded from losses with Varsity with an a 8-0 win over Lawrence Woodmere and JV playing SIA to a 2-2 draw.  Volleyball played some hard fought games against 3 state title contenders (Chapin, Brearley and Marymount). Girls JV Volleyball earned a come-from-behind victory in three sets over Marymount. PRE K VISITS THE FARM MUSEUM
PreK students took a trip to Queens County Farm Museum where they experienced life on a farm, fed the animals and enjoyed a hayride.
 

MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDIES PARIS PEACE TALKS
Middle School humanities students worked in groups representing one of the Big Four countries at the Paris Peace Conference at the end of WWI. They were tasked with determining Europe's new borders while representing their country's interests and trying to avoid another war.

WORLD AFFAIRS BREAKFAST CLUB
Sara A-M. '19, Aurelius B. '19 and Claire D. '19 presented the stories of three Asians who still see "ghosts" from WWII at World Affairs Breakfast Club this week, combining their interests in history and theater.

Up, up and away! The Middle School Science Squad elective launched stomp rockets in Prospect Park.


FROM THE ARCHIVES: OUR LINCOLN PLACE CAMPUS
This is what our Lincoln Place campus looked like in 1910! Berkeley Institute classes were held in what is now referred to as the "old building" (left). The "new building" was added in 1992. We completed major renovations to this section three years ago and are getting ready to open a new performance space at our Sterling Place building soon.
