Dear Parents,

The final Middle School track meets (7+8; 5+6) are scheduled for this Thursday at the track that is part of the Red Hook Recreation Area (Bay, Hicks, and Henry Street). As always, parents are welcome to attend. The best directions to the facility are available on the NYC Parks website.

The meet is technically the 'Berkeley Carroll Invitational'. For the first time, we are responsible for organizing, hosting, and running the meet. The potential size of this meet is quite large, with 4 grades eligible to participate. As those of you who attended the meet earlier this month, there can be a very large number of participants. Given the added responsibility on our coaches of hosting the meet, we must again ask for your help.

Here are some details:

  • Students participating in the meet will be dismissed from class at 2:45pm. Please send your runners with the appropriate clothing. Yesterday's meet was more like spring, but remember that Red Hook can be windy and cool if the weather pattern changes. The team(s) will travel by bus to the track.

  • As was the case last week, given the number of potential participants, we have scheduled two buses for the meet. This number also factors in to our estimates as to the length of the meet and our return to Berkeley Carroll. So that we can make our preparations, not only to travel but also to organize the meet, please notify me by email if your child will be attending Thursday's meet. That will permit us to predict the number of heats that will be needed for different events and more accurately estimate the return home. At the present time, we believe that the students should arrive back at Berkeley Carroll between 6:30 and 7:00pm.

Once again, thank you for all of your patience and help. Middle School Track has grown into the single largest athletic program in the school over the past two years, with considerably more than 60 participants. Given these numbers and the age of the participants, there are always glitches; there would be many more without your help. Along with the thanks owed our parents, I would also like to thank our coaches (Geoff, Brianna, Roberto, and John). They were terrific throughout the year, despite the less than favorable weather. We are all looking forward to a very enjoyable meet this Thursday.

Best,

Dick
