WINTER PEP RALLY - BC is WHAT? RED HOT!  

Students packed the bleachers today for the winter pep rally. The Upper School recognized our winter athletes while students competed in a land-based backstroke relay and a half-court shot competition (Swish! Click here to watch as senior John Allman wins that contest.) More photos here.

THIS WEEK'S SENIOR SPEAKERS

This week's senior speakers were (left to right) Zijun Zhang, Maya Littlejohn, Sabrina Quintanilla and David Pachter. Zijun spoke about her experience a student in the Chinese public school system and how it differs from her experiences in American schools. Maya discussed how art can act as a universal language and is most effective when it's being used for a larger purpose.

 
Sabrina spoke about her Hispanic heritage, explaining that she is sometimes feel forced to choose between many different cultural identities. David talked about his dream and plan to escape modern society and move to a cabin in the woods. Read more here.

We're closing in on the final days of the winter season: a record season for games, matches, meets and numbers of participants!  Much of n

ext week's schedule is subject to change now that playoff season is beginning. Highlights will include a Boys Varsity Basketball home playoff game on Wednesday and six swimmers heading to Philadelphia on Thursday for the Easterns. Read Athletics Director Dick McGrath's weekly update here.

AWARD-WINNING HUMAN RIGHTS LAWYER ADDRESSES 8TH GRADE

Paul Van Zyl, a BCS parent who served as the executive secretary on South Africa's Truth and Reconciliation Commission, spoke to the 8th grade last week about life in apartheid South Africa, the role of the commission and how the country can avoid another apartheid.

 
  

   

WORLD AFFAIRS BREAKFAST CLUB

This week's World Affairs Breakfast Club discussed the science, ethics and politics of vaccinations with special guests Nurse Nancy, filmmaker Todd Drezner and seniors from Ms. Smith's Science and Ethics class. Read more here.

 

    

AMERICAN STUDIES EXPLORES TRANSCENDENTALISM

Juniors took a photography trip to Prospect Park as part of their American Studies unit on transcendentalism!  "We communed with nature and then transcended the hullabaloo of city life to find a moment of pure serenity in the snowy trees," teacher Ernestine Heldring writes.  More photos here.
