You would not think you were

in Chatham Port.

In 1914, a part of Chatham was transformed in a way seen at few places on earth. Guglielmo Marconi included rustic Chatham Port in his plans to build massive high-power radio stations around the world.  Ed Moxon reveals how the big news unfolded here and around the world 100 years ago.  The postmark on the post card reproduced below was 1915, but that date was not originally on this postcard. The picture was taken from the top of what is now Cove Hill Road and the home at 600 Orleans Road is in the foreground. The photographer was probably trying to get the six large Marconi Towers. The locals  used wood to heat their homes hence there were few trees.
