Greetings!

The Chatham-Harwich Newcomers/CONCH Woodworkers group built handsome and useful cabinets for CMMC's museum shop.  We thank the craftsmen who authographed the back of their splendid cabinet:  Dick Hosmer, Bob Labreque, Franco Previd, Peter Lofgren, George Vermilyea, Ray Sacramone, John Scott, Paul Semple, Steve Patzman, Jay Kennedy, Jack McDowell, Bill Porter, Joe Linehan, Jack Kelleher, Jay Arthur, Bob Steiner, Mark Denner, and Rich Clifford.

CMMC in Chatham's
Independence Day Parade

Along with the Pleasant Bay Community Boating, CMMC once again had an entry in the 4th of July Parade.  The theme was "Hats off to Chatham," and the young sailors and radio buffs wore appropriate hats.  They carried banners that read:

"CMMC - Making Radio Waves in Chatham"

Marconi Museum Keeps Chatham's Wireless History Alive

The six-month "Treasures in Our Midst" series developed by Eldredge Public Library Assistant Director Amy Andreasson proved that Chatham's museums are vibrant, flourishing places well worth a visit this summer.  In the final talk of the series, Chuck Bartlett, president of the Chatham Marconi Maritime Center (CMMC), said that this summer a walking path will be developed behind the museum's operations building so that visitors can easily view the antenna towers behind the museum. In addition, renovations will be completed on the "Hotel" building on the 11-acre CMMC site at 847 Orleans Rd. Renovations will expand exhibit space, classrooms and offices. When Chatham Radio WCC was in operation the hotel, referred to as Hotel Nautilus, made ideal housing for the single male wireless radio operators. . . . .

Orpheum, Marconi Score
Big State Grants

The Chatham Orpheum Theater and the Chatham Marconi Maritime Center received financial boosts Tuesday when both were awarded Massachusetts Cultural Facilities grants. The drive to restore the historic Orpheum Theater on Main Street received $250,000, the highest amount allowed under the Massachusetts Cultural Council grant program and the single highest grant the popular project has received to date. The Marconi Center project to renovate the Hotel building on the campus of the former wireless receiving station received $129,525. Officials from both non-profit organizations were elated at the news.  "This is a feather in our cap," said Marconi Center President Charles Bartlett. "We're getting recognized on the state level as an institution that can bring benefit to the town and the state. We're so pleased.  It's just fabulous," said Orpheum President Naomi Turner.  "We did our homework, and really did it right."
