Reviewers Needed!
The Vermont Chapter has taken over approving continuing education courses in Vermont. In addition to generating revenue for our chapter, this service provides interesting, fun, and convenient opportunities for members to volunteer. We are seeking members who would be interested in reviewing the applications for approval. Each application takes approximately an hour to review, and can be done from your home computer. Reviewers need to first participate in a simple on-line tutorial. In addition to learning about upcoming course offerings, you will also earn CCUs for reviewing courses! If you are interested, please contact Parm Padgett, PT, DPT, NCS.
Seeking Candidates to Serve in 2017
Positions up for election in 2016 (to start on January 1, 2017) include: Vice President, Delegate, and two Nominating Committee Members. For more information, contact Executive Director Cindy Sliwa. There is support and training for these positions, so don't be intimidated - this is a great way to network and make a difference in your state!
Free Webinar for APTA Members on New Codes
This 1.5-hour course on September 22 is designed to introduce physical therapists to the new evaluation and reevaluation codes, and teach therapists how to select the appropriate evaluation code based on patient presentation. The new evaluation codes are split into 3 levels: low complexity evaluation, moderate complexity evaluation, and high complexity evaluation. Physical therapists will need to select the appropriate evaluation level based on 4 components: patient history, examination, patient presentation, and complexity of clinical decision making. This course includes patient scenarios specific to a variety of physical therapist practice settings, including cardiovascular and pulmonary, geriatrics, neurology, orthopedics, pediatrics, and private practice. For more information, visit the APTA Learning Center.
Join the Effort to Help Vermont's Older Adults Stay Steady!
We have six definite sites for our easy, enjoyable, educational Stay Steady Vermont events, where volunteer PT clinicians can educate older Vermonters about their balance and screen them according to the CDC's recommended performance measures. We also have 24 more sites that NEED committed volunteers to do the education and screening!
At Stay Steady Vermont events, we not only connect with individuals who need to hear information from trusted professionals, we also connect with agencies that have a shared mission. We all want to keep older adults healthy and strong so they can have great quality of life in the Green Mountains! Area Agencies on Aging, SASH, Senior centers, VNAs of New Hampshire and Vermont, State Departments of Health and DAIL are all invested in helping us promote these good events.
All we need is more PTs to take some time (about 2 hours) during the last 2 weeks of September, get into the community to educate, and screen people at the events. To make the orientation simple, we have created two 15-minute YouTube videos that you can watch at your convenience: Part 1 and Part 2. Here are sites where we need more PTs to help produce events:
