A Message from the AADD SIG Leadership:

New this year! We hope you have been able to join us for some/all of our first four of seven scheduled on-line meetings via AnyMeeting. This forum has been a wonderful, convenient opportunity to spend a weeknight hour learning from gifted speakers and interacting with thoughtful colleagues from all over the US. "Fit4Work: Increasing Work Opportunity for Youth with Disabilities" was the topic of our first two sessions 01/27/16 and 03/16/16 shared by Connie Johnson, PT, DScPT.   Cindy Dodds, PT, PhD, PCS then lead our next two sessions on 05/18/16 and 06/15/16: "Assessment and Measurement of Individuals with Severe and Complex Disability." Many thanks to meeting host Greg Schwalji, technical supporter Connie Johnson, and Executive Director Cindy Sliwa who has been helping us 'get the word out.' Stay tuned for details regarding future sessions scheduled for 09/14/16, 10/19/16, and 12/14/16.

CSM 2016 in Anaheim brought together over 10,000 professionals for 4 days of programming and networking opportunities 02/17-20/2016. Included was a Thursday AADD presentation "We Want to Pump You Up: Targeted Exercise for Adults with Cerebral Palsy" as presented by Noelle G. Moreau, PT, PhD, Mary E. Gannotti, PT, PhD, and Andrew McAleavey, MS. Early Friday morning 11 AADD SIG members gathered for our annual SIG meeting. Discussion topics included welcome and introductions, leadership updates, on-line meetings, educational programming, fact sheets, and advocacy/policy issues. Please see previously posted minutes on our Peds website for details, but watch for developing fact sheets/resources on 'Providing Consumer Centered Care' and 'Technology Across the Lifespan.'

Advocacy/policy related questions that were brought up at CSM: How can we best leverage resources to make a difference? Do we want to try and address policy more directly? What are the best strategies to be effective?   A big thank you to Maria Jones who serves as our Peds liaison to the APTA Federal Affairs Committee. Please share any thoughts or questions you might have with Maria at maria-jones@ouhsc.edu.

Fact Sheets: Do you know that existing fact sheets as well as links to fact sheets/resources of other related organizations can also be accessed at http://www.pediatricapta.org. Please check out these valuable resources if you haven't already or recently!

With two new fact sheets under development, Mary, Lorrie, and June Isaacson Kalles met via conference call in April to review their draft and decided to add information related to self-determined behaviors and their promotion for individuals pursuing PT and other health interventions. Lorrie hopes to complete a revised draft by June; stay tuned!

SoPac 2015 included several sessions related to adolescents and adults with developmental disabilities including Fit4Work, Goal Setting for Persons with Severe Disabilities, and Interventions for Persons with Severe Disabilities. We were delighted to also have 24 attendees express interest in joining our AADD SIG; WELCOME!!!

SoPac 2016 is shaping up to be 'stupendous'!!! Please plan to join us in Keystone, CO on November 11-13, 2016. Check out the website for housing (now open), programming, and other information at http://www.sopac.us/events/annual-conference/2016/index.cfm.

APPTAC 2017: As our 'Section on Pediatrics' transitions to the 'Academy of Pediatric Physical Therapy,' our annual conference will be renamed from SoPAC to APPTAC (Academy of Pediatric Physical Therapy Annual Conference). Please let Lorrie Sylvester know of any ideas for 2017 programming; call for 2017 papers will open soon!

Sincerely,

The AADD SIG Leadership Team
