Greetings, Hospital-Based Special Interest Group (HBSIG) members! This newsletter brings you the latest information from our SIG.
First of all, we'd like to welcome Jon Greenwood, who has stepped into the role of secretary for the HBSIG. Jon is the Director of Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy at Boston Children's Hospital in Boston, MA. He is a Triple Husky with his BS, MS, and DPT degrees in Physical Therapy from Northeastern University. Jon has been active in APTA as the former NH State Representative of the Academy of Pediatric Physical Therapy and is a Board-certified Pediatric Clinical Specialist, a Pediatric Neurodevelopmental-trained therapist, and holds certification as an Early Intervention Specialist. Having worked in a variety of treatment settings, he brings a working knowledge and hands on approach to pediatric care across all disciplines and has a passion for adaptive equipment for kids.
News from CSM 2016: Have you heard the news? The Section on Pediatrics is now the Academy of Pediatric Physical Therapy! Academy leadership and staff are working to update the website and other "Section" items with the new name. The HBSIG held a meeting at Combined Sections Meeting in Anaheim. Discussion focused on Medicaid reimbursement for durable medical equipment, early mobility in the intensive care unit, outcome measures in acute care, patient satisfaction measures, competencies for outpatient staff who cover shifts in inpatient settings, and preventing falls through family-centered care. Individuals shared their experiences, and all agreed these are relevant topics to pursue through the sharing of resources, programming at conferences, and further discussion in SIG conference calls.
HBSIG Conference Call Scheduled: The next Hospital-based SIG conference call will be Monday, April 18, at 8:00 pm Eastern Time. We hope you'll join us to discuss items of interest such as those listed above. Feel free to contact one of us for more information.

Interested in Oncology? Academy of Pediatric Physical Therapy members may now join the Pediatric Oncology SIG! The APTA Oncology Section will allow Academy members to join their Pediatric Oncology SIG at no additional cost. Although their leadership is still working out the details of how to join, this partnership is an exciting opportunity to network, learn, and share knowledge with other experts in APTA. See http://oncologypt.org/special-interest-groups/pediatric-oncology-sig/index.cfm for more information about this Oncology Section SIG.
