FROGMAGEDDON !!


 






This summer has dazzled us with another surprise from Mother Nature.  We have had frogs in our pond for years with what seemed a fairly consistent population.  This year we witnessed a massive hatch of tadpoles that have since morphed into baby frogs.  I know populations can by cyclical but my guess is ours has increased ten fold.  I have to assume we have a healthy ecosystem that has contributed to this explosion and hope we have the food source to sustain them.

I am always being educated and fascinated by the natural world great and small.  Many thanks to all for subscribing to our newsletter and sharing in our natural wonders.

I can't believe how time has flown by.  My wife and I just celebrated our one year anniversary and fall is approaching fast.  I have been painting away for the upcoming shows and working on the last couple of pieces for Trailside Galleries.  I have been hoarding paintings the last few months and I am very excited to share my new work with you.  


One of the best parts of being an artist is researching my subjects.  I was able to get away for a couple days and spend some time photographing bison in Yellowstone National Park.  Not a year goes by without going down to watch the bison during the rut.  My father and I are planning a trip to Glacier National Park in the fall in pursuit of mountain goats.  We got skunked last year because of the government shutdown and I'm really looking forward to spending some time in the park.

More Pond Wonders


 

Along with our frog explosion, we welcomed over a dozen goldfish. Our grandchildren put two goldfish in our pond years ago and surprise...this year have several more.  Did you know that goldfish are actually born brown and turn color as they age?

Quest for the West
Eiteljorg Museum

Daniel and Adam will be appearing together for the 9th annual Quest for the West Art Show and Sale at the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art in Indianapolis, IN from September 5 - 7. Noted for its outstanding hospitality and exceptional art, this show is one of their favorites. It truly is an art event unlike any other in the Midwest. We look forward to spending time with the great friends we have met over the years at the Eiteljorg. If you have an opportunity to visit the show, you will not be disappointed.

National Museum of Wildlife Art
September 12, 2014 

Winter Respite by Daniel Smith

  

Daniel and Adam will have paintings available for the Wild 100 Show & Sale at the National Museum of Wildlife Art in Jackson, WY on September 12th. Daniel's major painting for this show is a 16" x 24" wolf painting titled "Winter Respite" and Adam's major painting is a cougar painting titled "High Tension" with a size of 18" x 24". Western Visions is the National Museum of Wildlife Art's premier fall event with a variety of exciting happenings. The Wild 100 painters and sculptors participate in the art portion of the show and sale and as many as 2,000 people attend the events.
