3 THINGS TO DO | January 3-9, 2013
text
1. January Jamboree

We'll pass on the rain and wind and gloom of night, thank you very much. January's a great month to stay inside! Do it for free at the Children's Museum at La Habra this Saturday, which is throwing open its doors from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., courtesy of Target. Celebrate their January Jamboree, with clowns, magicians and strolling performers.

2. Discovery Days

Or head north to the Petersen Automotive Museum Saturday from 1-4 p.m., where your kids can make a car calendar and hear stories read by actors from L.A. BookPals. Tour 300,000 square feet of car-crazy exhibits, let your kids sit for photo ops in a roadster, and join in a Hot Wheels or Pinewood Derby car race in the third-floor Discovery Center.

3. American Girl Adventure

Who's the newest American Girl of the Year? Find out at an action-packed scavenger hunt Saturday or Sunday from 1-3 p.m. at The Grove in Los Angeles. Girls 8 and up can participate for free, taking home an American Girl poster at the end.

Challenged by Parenting a Gifted Child?
Find Help from Connie Wax, MSW, ACSW

Gifted kids have unique characteristics and emotional needs, and they are often ignored, mistrusted or ridiculed. This can lead to interpersonal difficulties and emotional distress when their differences are not understood, valued or accepted.

Connie Wax, MSW, ACSW, came to appreciate the unique needs of gifted kids while raising her own family. Her personal experience blossomed into a passion for helping parents guide and support their gifted children towards a fulfilling and meaningful life.

With more than 10 years of clinical expertise, Connie is now one of the only therapists in the area specializing in therapy for gifted and talented children, adults and their families. She is committed to assisting parents navigate the often rough waters of child rearing, with the goal of creating confident, competent, caring families.

In addition to providing one-on-one counseling in all life issues, Connie is certified to facilitate SENG (Supporting the Emotional Needs of the Gifted) parent groups. Her ten-week SENG parent discussion groups begin in September and January.
