3 THINGS TO DO | Nov. 29 - Dec. 5, 2012

1. On the Street
Bundle up and bring your beach chairs to the 30th annual Belmont Shore Christmas Parade, twinkling its way down East Second Street this Saturday, December 1, at 6 p.m. Stake out your spot to watch Grand Marshals Matt and Misty May Treanor (yes, the LA Dodger and the Olympic gold medalist) lead the procession of Olympians, floats, bands and Santa himself.

2. On the Pier
While they're in town, Santa and Mrs. Claus will head to Huntington Beach the next night, Sunday, December 2, for the Holiday Parade and Pier Lighting. The children's parade winds its way down Main Street starting at 4:30 p.m., followed by the lighting of the snowflakes at 6 p.m. Stay for live music, photos with Santa, and hot chocolate and cookies.

3. On the Water
Boaters have been known to spend up to 50 grand decorating their yachts for the Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade, appearing in Newport Harbor for the past 104 years. You have 14 miles worth of vantage points and five nights to choose from: the parade sets sail nightly at 6:30 p.m. December 19-23. (Click here for the route.) Or join the Christmas caravan by boarding a boat at Davey's Locker.

Clowning Around at Segerstrom Center
Get Caught Up in the Fun with Trapped

The comic antics of 500 Clown return to Costa Mesa this weekend with a brand-new production for OC audiences, Trapped.

Featuring their signature mix of hysterical physicality, raw emotion and powerful storytelling, 500 Clown combines action-based performance, improvisation and circus arts to tell dramatic stories that catapult the performers into physical and emotional risk.

In their latest production, 500 Clown Trapped, the troupe becomes ensnared, and the situation spirals out of control the harder they try to free themselves. Slapstick mishaps, vaudevillian turns and untiring resilience are put into play as the clowns work to escape. The Chicago Sun Times raved about this show, saying it was "A work of psychic combat and power games that will have you laughing and holding your breath all at the same time."

The performance is part of Segerstrom Center's 2012-13 Discovery Series, designed especially for kids ages 4 and up. As with all Family Series shows at the Center, be sure to come early as there are free creative-play activities and a reading area in the theater lobby an hour before each performance, designed for your family to have even more quality time together while also nurturing critical-thinking and problem-solving skills.

Segerstrom Center of the Arts
