Can you believe the holidays are beginning? Its Thanksgiving week and I'm ready for some turkey, candied yams, and pumpkin pie! Your Board of Directors wishes each and every one of you a great Thanksgiving. Please keep those in mind who cannot be with us. Keep their spirit close and thank the big guy upstairs for all the blessings we receive each and every day.

DJ Jim will be kicking off the holidays with some terrific music for you with Tuesday Night at Porter's beginning at 6:30 pm. He's going to play some great boppin' Christmas tunes to get everyone in the holiday mood. Make plans to be with us this Tuesday!

We will not be having a New Year's Eve party this year as our favorite place; the Holiday Inn Hurstbourne is under renovation. We will be back next year with an enlarged ballroom and an almost new facility. Lora Clark has a get together planned that sounds like fun. Please check out the info Jim provides below.

As a Board we are thankful for such a great group of volunteers, DJs, dance Instructors, and friends that we have in our membership. What a membership we have!! This has been a great year for DCBA and I hope you have had a great time. And, we've still got a month to go!! Our Holiday Ball is December 13th at the Moose Lodge and that will end our monthly dance year until our Valentines Dance in February.

So for now, have a great Thanksgiving and Vicki and I will see you on the dance floor!

Membership Renewal Time
For Those Members Renewing
At The End Of The Year

It's time to think about renewing your membership for 2015 in Derby City Bop Association.

Many of our members have a renewal date of December 31st. Only members joining since 2013 have memberships renewing in the month of their join date.

Derby City Bop began using a new system of membership renewal in 2013. One of the features allows the club to begin using the join date as the renewal date. Renewal forms will be mailed to members as their memberships expire and of course, all the usual methods of renewal will still apply.

Members who joined prior to the first couple of months in 2013 will have a renewal date of 12/31 of each year.

For only $35.00 per year you get free entry into Jim Porters, a value of over $200.00 alone! You also get reduced price entry into all of our monthly dances which include snacks and in the case of our Holiday Ball, a full dinner.

Of course there is value which isn't measured in dollars. You are part of one of the most successful dance clubs in the country with an annual membership averaging around four hundred members.

You get to dance to the music of our club's four DJ's who play for us on some of the most sophisticated equipment of any dance club in the country.

We also keep you posted on the latest news for our club as well as our sister clubs from around the country via our web site, our regular emails, and our club newsletter!

Of course we can't forget Boogie In The Bluegrass! Since our club is so successful, it allows us to put on one heck of a great party each year where our members can meet up with our friends from around the country for three days of great fun!

All in all, it's a great value for such a small sum of money!

There are a variety of ways to renew. You may download and print a renewal form from our website which you may fill out and mail with a check. You may pay at any of our club functions. You may also choose to renew and pay online at our club's web site using PayPal. Remember, you do not need to have a PayPal account in order to pay using this method. PayPal accepts any major credit or debit card as well as e-checks and of course if you have a PayPal account, you have several payment options through their service.

There has been a change in the cruise date and the ship.

The ship has been changed to the Caribbean Princess, a Grand Class Princess ship, much larger than the originally scheduled ship and what a beauty she is.

To make things even better...we get a private lounge on the ship for dancing!

There are dance lessons galore and great fun with friends!

Many of our DCBA members have reserved Balcony rooms on deck 10.

They throw open the connecting doorways between balconies and party together.

It's great fun!

Lesson Times For Tuesdays In 2014

Beginner lessons are taught every Tuesday evening in the front of the house at Jim Porters starting at 7:00 PM.

We no longer offer Intermediate lessons at Jim Porters.

Derby City Bop will hold it's monthly Membership/Board meeting in The Board Room of the Ramada Plaza Hotel. Enter the hotel using the door to the right of the main entrance.

We will discuss the general business of the club including dance venues, Boogie In The Bluegrass, Special Dances, and various articles of club business.

This meeting is only open to current members of Derby City Bop Association.

Please try to attend some of the monthly meetings to learn a bit about what goes in to operating your club. You might be surprised at the topics we cover and decide you would like to participate regularly.

No Frills New Years Eve Dance

Lora Clark wanted to let everyone know they are having a No Frills New Years Eve Party. Lora's dance description and a flyer are below.

The dance we are having is just that, a dance. Nothing special. I wanted to tell everyone about it in case people are looking for a place to go.

We rent the VFW on Grantline Rd in New Albany. They have a nice big wood floor. Drinks are cheap.

We are playing music from my ipod. Last year many people brought appetizer type snacks to share (leftover Christmas goodies). There was plenty.

We dress very casual (no need to buy anything special to wear or get your hair done etc) and the price is $12 in advance or $15 at door to cover the cost of renting the hall. We had a great time.

We have made arrangements with Embroidery On Demand to provide various items with our club logo to our members. Many of you who attended Boogie In The Bluegrass may remember Embroidery On Demand as one of our most popular vendors. They provided some outstanding items with our club logo embroidered onto them. Embroidery is so much more attractive and long lasting than screen printed items.

Embroidery On Demand has created a DCBA Web Store with various items available to our members.

We have received a few samples for people to view but rest assured, these are high quality garments.

The DCBA Web Store is now open and we hope to add new items as we develop this concept.

Would you like to see the 25th anniversary logos available through the end of the year only? Embroidery On Demand created these logos which may be used on apparel purchased through our DCBA web store or by purchasing apparel at our upcoming Boogie In The Bluegrass Dance. Many of you follow Derby City Bop on Facebook, but did you know we also have a Twitter page? Did you know we actually have two different Facebook Accounts?

Hang on a minute and we'll explain.

Most of you who follow us on Facebook do so using our Facebook Group. This Facebook Group is designed as a place for our members to gather and share information with one another. If you don't currently follow our Facebook Group, click the logo below to visit our Group page.

We also maintain a Facebook Page. This is an area on Facebook where we post pertinent information about Derby City Bop. You may Join our page and we suggest you check it often as we always post information about upcoming dances as well as links to our emails. This isn't an area for members to post to, rather it is just information about the club and it's events.
