Many of our club members will be attending the SOS Spring Safari as well as the Fall Migration in North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
What is SOS? Well, if you are one of the many attendees in our club you already know, if you have never been, let's just say it's ten days of great fun, dancing, and music with seven or eight thousand crazy, fun loving Shag enthusiasts from all around our country and even other parts of the world.

It's beach clubs like Fat Harold's, Ducks and Ducks II, Pirates Cove, The OD Arcade and The Spanish Galleon located in the Ocean Drive Beach Resort. It's record and shoe shops like Judy's House of Oldies and restaurants like The Hot Diggity Diner, The International Cafe, and Duffy's Seafood where you'll find your friends sitting outside eating great seafood and drinking cold beer. In short, it's where you go to get the flavor of what it was like growing up in the Fifties and Sixties as a teenager at the beach where you met your friends for some fun in the sun and some great Shaggin' to some fine music on sandy dance floors by the ocean. It's where you can still go to step back in time and act like a crazy teenager once again...and go we do! Derby City Bop will have nearly fifty people making the trek, mostly in the fall but some will attend both, and you can too!
But not without your SOS card. What is an SOS card? It's your ticket to fun and it's good all year! Plus, you join an elite group of people who call themselves "Stranders". That's right, you become a member of The Society of Stranders. You'll receive your own copy of The SOS Times to keep you up to date on the activities at the beach and you'll be able to enter any of the clubs without charge during SOS. Without your card.....well, you can't get in at all!
To make things even better, you get a discount by being a member of Derby City Bop!
Since our club supports The Shag and Beach Music, and we are full members of the Association of Carolina Shag Clubs, we are able to offer our members their SOS tickets for $30.00 instead of the $35.00 the ticket would cost you if you purchase it at the beach during SOS. This is another great benefit of being a member of Derby City Bop.
How do you get your ticket you ask? Well it's easy. The Association of Carolina Shag Club's sends our club tickets to sell to our members. You may purchase your tickets at any of our events. That's right, any Tuesday evening at Jim Porters or at one of our monthly dances!
Just see our club treasurer Mike Edwards, our club President Mike Hall, our Vice President Larry Johnson, or our club Secretary Beth Stenberg. Normally our club treasurer has the tickets and past Treasurer Larry Johnson does until he passes them on to our new Treasurer Mike Edwards, but any of the above officers will make sure you get your ticket or tickets so feel free to ask any one of them about purchasing your SOS ticket.
