Hi, BirdWatchers!

Fall is in the air and we are loving these crisp, cool days - just perfect for sitting out on the deck enjoying our yard, taking hikes or going birding. And this just happens to be the peak of fall migration for millions of birds that pass through Georgia on their way south to their wintering grounds in Mexico, Central and even South America.

Whether you do it at home, at a local park, or at a birding hot spot like Kennesaw Mountain, we encourage you to grab a pair of binoculars and your field guide, and see what treasures you might find! American Redstarts, Magnolia and Tennessee Warblers are commonly seen foraging for insects in the trees, along with orioles, vireos, tanagers, cuckoos and so much more!

Most of these migrants are insect and berry eaters, but a few will visit feeders. Keep an eye out for Gray Catbirds, Indigo Buntings and Rose-breasted Grosbeaks. Bird baths are another great place to spy an avian wanderer. Fresh, clean water is very important to migrating birds.

Many of our winter birds will also be arriving soon, like Juncos, White-throated Sparrows, Yellow-rumped Warblers, Hermit Thrushes and Ruby-crowned Kinglets. We've had some Rufous Hummingbird reports already!
