Are you covered up in hummingbirds yet? We've been watching the "hummer wars" at our feeders this week as more and more birds guard, chase, and bully each other. We are really glad hummingbirds are not the size of grackles or doves, or we'd really be in big trouble!

Hummingbirds have one job this time of year and that is to fatten up for their long migration. Unlike us, birds only carry fat when they need it. A Ruby-throat typically weighs about 3 grams. Prior to migrating, their weight can double to 5 or 6 grams. It takes a lot of calories to make it across the Gulf of Mexico!
